So slow plex ui on my LG TV

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: latest

On my mi box3 (android tv), ios and android clients have very fast loading speed, but on my LG TV it’s so slow to use generally.

I think it may because lg tv’s hardware limits, but with plex’s optimization it would be better.

From my understanding, the client in an LG TV it’s not a “full” client and part of it has to download from the internet when you launch it. This is why the LG will not work without internet access. But the Android client is “all there” and will work without needing internet access.

Having to wait for this download would explain the longer load time.

You don’t need Internet to watch Plex on LG if it already active and setup correctly.

You need to add LAN IP of server to TV app and add you subnet mask or Device LAN IP address to your network settings.

(List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.)

The Normal delay on first start up is about 10-13 seconds, if longer it may help with a few other settings and changes. After the initial start up of the LG app, it should run smooth especially on Nano Cell and OLED models

  1. Remove any unused app from the LG ( Is your Tv compatiable with UNO UI)
  2. Reserve or make static your LAN devices IP in your Router, this locks up the devices mac address and helps consumer grade Routers handle heavy traffic.
  3. Try using a public DNS on the TV
  4. Factory Reset TV
  5. Power cycling your TV from wall socket (Two Minute delay)
  6. Power cycle your Router on a regular basis

Okay, I’m going off what was told on another thread and since I have home users set up I haven’t tried a manual IP/unauth method. But that still wouldn’t preclude the idea the LG has to partially load the Plex app from another source at startup. In this case it could be loading what data it needs off the server direct.

Personally I find the Plex app seems to take much longer to load from launch to a usable state compared to Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. Heck, Prime is so fast for awhile there I never even saw a splash screen for it. I’d choose the app and BAM! it was on the listings in less than 2 seconds. A new version has come out since then that is not quite so springy though, but still pretty fast.

If using External drives you also have wake times. Once loaded I have no issue, yes it not a racing car but one less remote.

By the way what model LG TV?

Just a Cyber Monday special. A 43UJ6300. It looks like I will not be able to use the Plex ad-supported content on it since the WebOS version is not going to get upgraded to a level that Plex says it needs. Not that that makes a lot of sense to me. If Amazon Prime can handle in-app renting and purchasing, and Hulu can handle in-video ad-injection (before I went commercial-free at least), and the Plex app can handle local and remote server playback, I would think the needed support should be covered by TV’s OS as it is.

The processor in that model is not crash hot, as stated previously Nano cell and OLED TV’s have better performance due to the Alpha 7 or 9, with Gen 2 and 3 over the last few years.

I use 75UK6570!
and i already setup home network server.

I’m suffering this on two LG TV’s even switching between who signs in is too slow. The TV is hard wired. The router has been reset. Even exiting and switching between say “exit” and “cancel” takes 20 seconds to highlight the other button. The Samsung we have is also running a little slower yet PC’s seem to be fine both client and web version.

You must change your LAN security to Fall back to insecure on the app and use Preferred on the Server settings.

To find it on the app, it seems hidden. General settings/ scroll to the bottom. For me this needs to be a catagory of it own as too many miss. Also check on the network settings on the LG ( Not App) that you have disabled IPv6.

I’ve chosen to roll back
How I fixed this was to uninstall Plex from the NAS as you cannot down grade it won’t let you. After uninstalling I rebooted the NAS (Just in case) and installed version PlexMediaServer-1.18.9.2578-513b381af-x86_64.spk

Note: I didn’t loose any settings and all my users were still there.

This fixed problems on all 3 TV’s even though the Samsung only seems to be slightly slower.

Secure connections came into Plex in 2015 and the TV’s have been working fine, both are work around because obviously something has changed in PMS just over a month ago that’s stops some TV’s working with it anymore.
