[Solved] Photo Timeline Out of Order and Photos in Wrong Date

It gets even worse than when I reported this error. Now it moves photos up to a year. I spent a lot of time geotagging my photos. I also corrected the shooting dates to match the file name and file date. Besides, why do photos have different sizes in the browser?

I am using now DSM 7 and the latest PlexMediaServer-1.23.5.4862-0f739d462-x86_DSM7 and still the same problem - PS: adding only some photos works fine, but I do have more than 8.000 photos and adding all of them confuses timeline again :disappointed_relieved:
Got the timeline working
by reorganizing my folder structure!
My fotos are located in folders by year and subfolders by event
Now i did move all folders dated before 2000 in a separate main folder “19XX”
and did regenerate the mediathek.
Timeline is OK now
Unfortunately on the next day timeline is confused again :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Any news to solve date issue with photos?
I have ~2000 photos with date 1 Jan 1900.
The worst things is that on the time line there are on the top. If i want to watch on plex clients i have to scroll 2000 pictures down to get actually photo.
How to put this 2000 pictures with date 1900 on the bottom.

Is this the same bug?
Every new picture shows up with year 2440
?

The Gallery for photos and home videos is a must-have feature, but I think no one uses this from the developers, because it has

  • many bugs (e.g. THIS scrolling bug on web UI, or the scrolling bug on Android where the thumbnails mixing, jumping while I scrolling, and crashing at the end)
  • the UI has issues (e.g. hardly recognizable directories when the image and dir name prefixed same)
  • and can not manage media content of a family (e.g. missing manual tagging, customizable recognitions,
).

Still messed up to this day. No amount of shuffling files around and rescanning libraries / emptying trash helps. I’m really disappointed. Anyone knows of any other self-hosted app that handles a photo timeline better?

Clearly, there is no point in using Plex for Photos management but it still seems good for movies/TV shows/music.

For privately-managed photos management, I am leaning on Photoprism (https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism). Otherwise, I am still on Google Photos as it’s easy to use with family etc.

Hello,
I have the same problem on a QNAP TS-451D2. Everything works perfect, except the Photo library (~149.000 family photos, videos, in the last almost 18 years).
The problem is, that I don’t want to use cloud service (for example G Photos), I need a solution on my NAS, with Chromecast feature, tagging, sharing, realtime transcoding of videos

This is not a solved problem. Could a Plex employee at least acknowledge this fact?

The Timeline is still messed up

I’ve done the Plex Dance several times but to no avail.

I really like having our family pictures in Plex but wish Plex could allocate some developer time to fix this. It means a lot.

Keeping this alive and hope others will too. Hopefully someday soon a Plex Server update will come out with “fixed photo’s Timeline, no user action required, it will automatically fix it”. But until then we will just keep bugging Plex to do something about it. This is an opportunity for Plex to step in where Google is going to be falling short in a year or two when everyone’s cloud storage starts running out. Why wouldn’t they take advantage?

I personally think there is no point, it’s just wasting more time at this point. You might as well find another service that’s open source and has more features. Time is limited for us mortals!

Same issue here, this is extremely frustrating especially for those that paid for a lifetime PlexPass.

It won’t help that this thread is marked as [solved].

Adding my voice to the pile. It’s so broken, I’m not sure why they even bother having it there. It’s one of my favorite features
wish they would give it some love.

Same Problem here.
Recently added all fotos from mobile and thought the date is messed up due to adding 6000+ fotos at once. But even after editing the orginally_available_at and addad_at in the database its not shown correctly in the timeline.
It also seems that there is some rising deviation as fotos from middle of this year are delayed for just some days but from 2018 its for month.

@ Developer Team: please give this feature some attention.

same problem here, ridiculous

Not solved at all since 2019, and not any feedback from the staff ?

As this topic was marked ‘solved’ I created a new one with the same subject, I didn’t realised this one was still active.

Two and a half years later and still having the issue. Plex development is a joke.

The Captured Time is correct, yet the image is in the wrong spot in the timeline. I have no I idea where the 11th of july comes from as it’s not the file creation date either. And to top it all off Plex even fails to group the images of the 11th of july together.

Edit: Tried the Plex dance and now the images are somewhere else in the timeline, but not where are supposed to be

Update: I created a new library with the same images and now most of them seem to be in the correct spot. Just a few are off by a day. Also the problem with different “groups” of the same date not being merged is still the same

Now I just need to wait 1.5 years for auto tagging to complete if it works at all lol

Why is this marked as [Solved]. It obviously is not. I just completed the Plex Dance and it ended up throwing away several months of auto tags in the process.
