Plex Media Server Logs_2025-07-12_19-24-56.zip (6.1 MB)
I run my plex server from a WD MyCloud2100 NAS, and I use my phone to cast the media to one of two Chromecasts that I have. They are both identical models, Chromecast Ultra (not sold anymore, looks like a black disk, no remote control). This setup has worked perfectly for years, and nothing in the settings has changed.
About 2 weeks ago, the Chromecast in my living room just stopped playing certain files. Ex: I’d launch a TV series, and it will skip each episode of the first season 1 file at a time until it arrives at S02E01, and then start playing normally. I’ve tested this on other series as well. It will also do it with some movies: Plex will open the file, and then it will immediately return to the Plex home screen, without marking the file as watched. Other shows and movies work completely fine. My office Chromecast in the next room over continues to have no issues, nor watching on my phone or PC.
I have tried rebooting and factory resetting the Chromecast without success, I’ve made sure all the settings between the two devices are identical, Neither is too far away from the Wi-Fi (and have not moved in years). I almost want to say that the troublesome Chromecast is just too old and not working properly, except it works perfectly depending on the file (again, no recent changes to the settings on anything). Because of this, I have to assume that it’s something about the way my Plex server is communicating with the troublesome Chromecast…
Has anyone else seen this problem/able to help me solve it?
Please and thank you.
