Hi, sorry to insist, but I’d be great if you could help me try and solve this once and for all. Thank you.
I apologize. Somehow this thread disappeared from my “watch” list.
For those movies without posters; Are they MP4 or AVI files?
Hi! Most of them are MKV files. Almost all of them in fact.
That’s interesting.
PMS doesn’t read the Title or Name field from MKV files. It only goes by the file name.
For one of your files which doesn’t get poster and metadata, How is the file named? (exact name please)
From your previous request about how my agents are set:
For example, the film Caché. The file is named Caché (2005).mkv
Either way, when I try to select a different poster for ANY of the films, it goes blank.
Let’s try something??
- Move the movie and its directory out of your library
- Scan files, empty trash, clean bundles (make it go away)
- Rename the directory and file to be
Cache (2005)/Cache (2005).mkv(notice I changed to US spelling) - Now put into position
Great, I’m on it.
Ok, did as you said and now it is displayed correctly.
However, when I try to change the poster for any film, I won’t let me. The movie Arrival, for example, has no issues with it’s name (I’m using FileBot for all my files as you suggested) but when I tried to select a different poster for it, it went blank. Every poster you see on that screenshot was added manually by me.
Another thing I don’t think I’ve mentioned before, is that this happens most of the times when I select a film, I won’t show the pictures of the cast. What confuses me is that all of this started happening out of nowhere…
What is the Language you have specified in the Library ( ‘Edit’ the Library ) ?
I think PMS is confused about which language to use for matching and metadata lookup -OR- it is confused itself.
The reason it’s not showing the cast is because of the same matching problem. Until it resolves the film correctly, it won’t be able to identify and retrieve the cast info from IMDB.
I would like to try clearing the Agent cache.
- Stop Plex
- In where Plex keeps the metadata on your system (not sure where you installed it), you’ll find “Plug-in support/Caches”
3, Delete everything in there - Restart Plex
- Now refresh the metadata for the library (Refresh All Metadata)
What we’ve just done is cleared out ALL the caches. If there have ever been partial or failed downloads of data, it’s all gone now. PMS is starting with a clean work space.
Let’s see what that does next.
Great, I’ll do that right away.
The language my Library is in is English.
It is now refreshing all metadata. This is supposed to take a long time… right?
It will not take as long as a fresh match but you will see it “flip” the poster for each film as it confirms. This is how you can track its progress.
Great, should I try and modify some of the already refreshed ones to see how it reacts? Or should I wait until it’s finished completely?
I suggest letting it finish first. Let it stabilize. When it is done, Optimize the database
Doing it this way, you know you won’t collide with any of PMS activity
Great. I’ll let you know. Thank you!
Hi again! So, I did as you said and nothing changed. I’ll show you some examples:
As you can see here, Arrival has no poster at all…
Being There (3rd from the left) has a Russian poster…
And finally, Breathe (1st from the right) has an Italian poster…
I’m really sorry to keep bothering you, but this is so frustrating. Thanks again for your time.
that looks a LOT better than it was.
- Move “Arrival” out of where you store your movies (move it some place safe)
- Scan files (let it finish)
- Observe that it is no longer listed
- Empty Trash
- Clean bundles
- Move the movie back into position
- Scan files again and watch it match

Ok, i’ll try that.
