I’ve got a Shield TV 2017 16GB that I set up as Plex Media Server (PMS).
The media files are stored on an external 8TB HDD connected to it that I mapped via SMB to my Win10 PC for access and management.
I started setting up the libraries on the server. Movies worked just fine, but some TV shows and cartoons don’t seem to want to download any metadata. I’ve got the folder and naming structure correct, as per Plex naming articles (Title of Show \ Season XX \ Title of Show - SxxEyy - Title of Episode.extension).
I never had this issue when I ran PMS on my PC, strangely enough - same shows!
I did manage to get one of the shows to download metadata by refreshing, fixing matches, unmatching, matching again… but it’s so much hassle!
AstroAss, I too have the same issue with my new ShieldTV,
It loads my movie metadata, not TV. If I change to my NAS PMS server it’s there. However not on the ShieldTV, keep in mind my both point to the same directory… Not sure what is happening
Weird… I really wish someone could throw me a bone on how to fix this. I still have this issue. I suppose I could scrap the entire TV library, clean the trash and try again, but I’m not even sure that’ll work.
That could entail a lot of work on my part, and not sure it will even work… Never had this issue when using PMS from my NAS, I got the Shield to avoid using the NAS as PMS and storage, only for storage now and this is an issue.
Yeah, I feel ya. I originally bought my Shield TV just for the Android TV, because this way I’m detaching the processing power from the TV and thus can buy whatever panel I want (especially since Samsung refuse to put Android TV on their models…assholes…). It working as a PMS was a bonus - this way I finally don’t need to run a PC or a separate server 24/7. SMB file sharing from external drives was also a huge one, so I don’t even need a file server anymore, since I can just dump stuff onto the drives connected to my Shield. Pretty convenient. Plus all the games and streaming and whatnot.
But the fact that PMS fails with the TV metadata is sooo annoying… I find it infuriating that it figures out the shows correctly, the seasons are all in place, it even knows the episode numbers and air time. But it just can’t f***ing display the right metadata! I don’t even know where is the root of this problem, because clearly it knows the episodes, the seasons and the show names. Just fails to display them properly. Some shows worked after like 20 refreshes. Some still do not.
You are not alone. I have the same issue. It all depends on how I load the shows. SOme of the first shows that I load onto the server work , but if I load them in a different order, no metadata. I cannot even edit it as nothing will save. I am just hoping now that it will be fixed in the next update. It usually seems to choke at around 250 shows. No rhyme or reason. Either way it has made my shield unusable as a server.
