Some TV Shows no longer sorting by Seasons

Hello! First off, I absolutely love Plex. I use my old gaming PC as the server with WIN10. Got a cablecard in my HDHomerun Prime + Tuning Adapter and I absolutely love it. I love being able to DVR whatever I want without fear of ever losing it. I stream to multiple rokus, android devices, and use the web player as well. The problem I’m noticing happens on all players, and I believe is within the metadata.

I’ve been using Plex for a while now, and I’m usually very self-sufficient in fixing anything that comes up. However, in this last PMS update, I noticed about 50% of my shows started just showing “Episodes” instead of “Seasons”.

I fixed about 90% of all shows by using a method I found already on the forums: I use FileBOT to rename everything with the plex setting. I did this and removed all the shows that weren’t being sorted by Season from the directories I have PLEX pointing at.

Once all the files are renamed and put in the proper show name/season #/file name structure in a different directory, I have PLEX re-scan. Once those shows have all disappeared, I clean bundles, re-scan, and clean bundles again just in case. Moving forward, I’ll refer to this as “clean/re-add”.

Okay, here’s where the problem starts. Once I get to this point, it took some trial and error. The first couple of times I clean/re-add shows (I would do only 1 show at a time, only 2-3 seasons at a time), it would show up as 2-3 seasons so it appears to be working. However, once it was to the point of grabbing artwork/info, it would go right back to only showing episodes.

I use(d) TVDB as my primary agent. Once I started having these issues after a clean/re-add, I changed the primary agent to The Movie Database. And it worked! I have no idea why, but whenever it tries to re-pull info from TVDB, it defaults to episodes instead of seasons.

As mentioned, this fixed almost all of my shows except 1 big one. The Simpsons.

No matter what I do, nothing works. Clean/re-add, use TVDB or The Movie Database, try 2-3 seasons at a time, try all seasons, or even removing the episode name and just do The Simpsons - S##E##" - nothing works.

All of the files are appropriately named and have the correct file structure.

The first thing I thought to myself was: “Well, maybe it’s because there are so many seasons/episodes?” That could be a valid concern, but I also have most of the episodes of SNL, and there are more seasons and more episodes. SNL has no problems. Simpsons is 31 Seasons/639ep vs. SNL’s 46 Seasons/852ep

Any idea of what I could try next?

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: plex.tv Web player, Newest Roku Ultra, Newest Android

Is it actually matching the series and pulling correct metadata for the individual episodes? If so, double check that the show is configured to show seasons (not hide them). Edit the show (pencil icon in the lower-left corner of its poster) and check the advanced settings:

Holy crap, that did it! Hahaha I feel dumb now, but it’s so weird that on this update that some would change and some wouldn’t. Weeeeeird. I do remember checking this option before I cleaned and re-added, but never looked again since it fixed every show except Simpsons. Still very strange, but hey I like the easy ones  Thanks for the help @pshanew!

No problem, glad it worked.

This particular setting is a bit weird, in my experience. I generally keep it set to “Library Default,” which itself is set to “Show.” Sometimes, for whatever reason, it derps out on DVR recorded content and I have to manually set it to “Show” at the show level.

Great solution, man! I went ahead and matched your settings, and everything is working great now. For whatever reason, this last update just made that stuff wigout.
