Specifically True Blood is only showing season 2

Activate the Detail view mode of the file explorer and check the file sizes.
Try to play some of the unseen episodes in a desktop video player.
And restore the Season 0x subfolders.

When performing the Plex Dance, it is important to execute all steps, in the noted order. Otherwise it is useless.

Hah, I found out another way to force it. I renamed the True Blood Parent folder to True Blood 82283.
82283 is the show ID on TVdb site. This fixed the problem.

It is still incorrect.
The thing that triggered the fresh match was the act of ā€œrenamingā€ the folder.

However, the better way would be to either add the release year in parentheses or add the TVDB ID in the required syntax.

i.e. either
True Blood (2008)
or
True Blood (2008) - {tvdb-82283}

Okay, so it basically was never matched.

BTW, matching ids should be in { } with the online source. True Blood (2008) {tmdb-10545} as an example.

Why the heck do have all the seasons in ONE folder?
Make Season 01 and all the other up too Season 06 (if that’s the last one)
and do the proper dance:

  • Move files out to where not monitored
  • Scan files for the library (let it finish)
  • Empty Trash
  • Clean bundles (Also let this finish)
  • Optimize Database (AND THIS TOO)
  • Now move it back.

Phrasing!

There should be no reason to create season folders if all the episodes are named properly. The coding should find anything named True Blood S01E01 in the TV shows folder and create the metadata for it. Its the same thing with Kodi. If I wanted too i could probably put every show episode I have into the TV Show parent folder and the db should work. Would it look good or even be good database structure, no, but the metadata should still match. I have been doing this for years, just new to Plex so I know there are still some things I need to learn but I tried structured folders, i tried renaming everything in multiple settings. The only thing that worked ā€œfor meā€ with True Blood is adding the 82283 to the Parent folder name, I didnt even have to use ().

Strictly that is correct from a matching standpoint. However putting stuff in season folders helps with the performance of the scanner. Take the Simpsons with 33 seasons. If you have all these in a flat structure every time you add a new episode it scans every single file for changes. Whereas if you have season folders it will only scan the season folder you added an episode to.

I had some old shows like that before I had Plex in one folder for all the seasons. It works ā€œsometimesā€ but it’s not a reliable way to organize things in the long run. I suspect if your library is large there may be other missing seasons out there you haven’t noticed yet. (or will in the future)

There’s ā€œno reason to create season foldersā€ except for the fact that you’ve wasted a lot of time and you’re here wondering where your files are

Plex (and most software) doesn’t work the way I want either. Don’t fight it

Just pretend like Plex is your wife. Remain quietly angry and do what it says to avoid problems
