Split movies into two directories, one will not work, HELP!

Server Version#:4.0.1

Good morning all. So I need a little help with the directory configuration on the server. Recently I became a guardian for a minor, and I decided I did not want her to have access to movies above rating PG-13. I have setup a new user (I have Plex Pass) to block R rated and above movies. As an added precaution I seperated my movies into two seperate directories, R and above, and PG-13 and below. I then setup which directories each user can access. The issue I am having is the elevated accounts can access movies in the R directory, but when my niece logs on her media in the PG-13 directory is blank! I have verified that the directory links are correct (re-did them three times to make sure), verified the media files are in the associated directory, but I cannot get the media to appear in the client. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ted

Did you define any age ratings or label-based restrictions for this managed user?

Keep in mind that these are “white lists” and not “black lists”. i.e. what you define in there is what the user has permission to access.

btw. with Plex Pass there would be really no need for separate libraries. You can simply define the age ratings which the user is allowed to see.
You only need to make sure that all media to which the user should have permission have indeed one of the allowed age ratings applied to them.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I did define ratings. I am not convinced that the issue is the restriction process but rather a directly link issue, at least thats what I am thinking.

And which ratings did you define?
Do any of the media in the ‘kids’ folder actually have one of those ratings on them?

Did you addtionally define label-based permissions?

Thanks Otto. Even if I had a “R” rated movie in the kids folder, it should appear in my elevated account, but it is not, empty there as well. Not sure what Label based means.

Please Edit your kids library,
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
and make a screenshot

side question: did you apply these changes?

I am at work now, I will look into this when I get home. Thank you for your assistance.

So I just got home and I am thinking this has nothing to do with restrictions. I have two other users, both being admin, both can access my directory “Movies R”, but no one can access the “Movies PG”. Both directories links are configured the same way, so I am thinking this has something more to do with the library link to the drive more than anything.

I found the issue for anyone who cares. My issue turns out was not Plex, but the permissions on my Synology NAS. I did not have to make any changes for the other directories so I am not sure why this directory was not created the same, but that was the issue. Thanks for your help Otto!

Not sure what you mean here, because in Plex there can only be one admin.
Or do you mean admin on the NAS?

Have you checked the access restrictions in the NAS? Username ‘plex’ needs at least ‘read’ privileges to that folder.

Ha, we both posted at the same time.
Glad you figured it out!
