Splitted movies: Part 2 doesn't work

Hi,

let’s start with the setup: FireTV4k Stick and DS218+

Today I found a bug with splitted movies, which worked in the past as it’s supposed to work, if I remember that correctly.

I added Lord of the Rings Extended and this movie contains 2 discs per episode (or whatever I should call it).

I changed the title to TITLE.Disc1.mkv / TITLE.Disc2.mkv.
The media library is working fine, both parts are merged, I only see the episodes once. The details of the episode is also correct, telling me 3h (and some min.) runtime.
If I start the movie, the runtime turns down to 1h45m (part 1). When I reach the end, it’s buffering some seconds and then I am thrown to the “end screen”, showing the cover and the replay button.

Using the chapters is pretty equal. I can see the chapters of part 2, but when I use them, I am also thrown to the “end screen”. I tried to remove part 1, and by doing that I get access to part 2 and it’s all fine - like a single part movie. So the file itself is ok.
I also tested other splitted movies and it’s the same bug.

When I use the browser version on my PC I also see a runtime of 1h45m, part1, but when passing the end, it’s buffering shortly and part 2 starts automatically. So beside the fact, that Plex is not capable to add these two runtimes, the playback is working fine.

That’s not how it’s supposed to be, thats not the intent of the “splitted movie capability” of Plex, so what can I do?

Thank you and have a nice christmas time

I would just merge the two files into one.

Hi, yes I did that as a work around. In some cases it is possible, in some others not or with a lot of work only.
So Plex is supposed to be capable to handle this, so this has to be fixed, regardless of the potential alternatives

Same issue here, with exactly the same movie. The advice here is really “just join them”? What a pain.

What decision-making led to there being Plex clients that don’t support multi-part files in the first place?

At least add UX to let us manually select the second file. But really… this shouldn’t be such a big deal to fix.
