Has something changed in Plex Media Server for Windows in the last month?
When playing a movie on Chromecast or mobile, the subtitles will sometimes drop out and not show - if the subtitle is in .SRT (UTF8) format. However, if I open the .SRT file and save it as .ASS - it will show without any problems through the whole movie…
Search the entire plex forum for “sub” and “drop” or “disappear”.
Several posts exist.
They think they have it fixed, see the Plex Pass server release from today
Well, it continued after the update - .SRT would show at the start of the movie, but then disappear in the middle of the movie.
.SSA / .ASS (advanced substation) files don’t have this problem, and with the new update to Plex when using Chromecast…both the info screen and .SRT files have VERY small text sizes, all of the sudden. And I can’t find anywhere to change it.
So…the answer to my own question is: when viewing 4:3 and 16:9 videos, subtitle size 20 is OK. For some odd reason, it has to be text size 24 when viewing cinemascope movies. This results in the same size as 20 when viewing on TV, phone.

Hi, I have the same problem when using the Windows store app - SRT subtitles will show for a while, then stop. ASS subtitles seems to be OK.
I am now trying to work out whether making the srt subtitles forced (using MKVtoolNIX) would make any difference.
Or should I convert the subtitles to ASS?
