SSL Certificate Errors

Actually, now I’m seeing:

Dec 12, 2021 21:26:44.729 [0x30c687000] ERROR - CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

@yaryarrr

That’s definitely Plex.tv saying “Daily quota exceeded”…

Each server is allowed 5 per day. (certificates are normally 1 certificate per 90 days).

Since it doesn’t show in the server record, there is nothing I can do (insufficient privilege with ‘operations’)

So I just need to wait until tomorrow? Any way I can make sure that the new server won’t exceed the rate limit again tomorrow?

I recently migrated to a new Mac server using these instructions: Move an Install to Another System | Plex Support

To make 100% certain.

Go into /var/lib/plexmediaserver and make 100% certain that plex:plex (or whichever UID/GID you run as, owns the files.

Most of the time when I see runaway certificate requests, it’s either -

  1. User reinstalled (COLD) more than 4 times
  2. Something changed ownership in /var/lib/plexmediaserver
    – (this happens when people think they put media in “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media”

I don’t seem to have a file /var/lib/plexmediaserver on my macOS installation. Is there something else?

Chuck, I am having this cert error CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Started today randomly and I can’t access my plex unless I use direct LAN or WAN IP. Please help.

Sorry… I didn’t catch that you’re on MacOS

MacOS – ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server

To All Following here;

I will place a notice for the team to find.

Local time for me: 23:30

This is the best I can do.

Sorry

Hey, thanks for taking a look.

I don’t have any scripts that write to this area, It’s a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 20.04 on new hardware. The ‘var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server’ folder was entirely backed up with the exception of Cache. I installed Plex Media Server, stopped the service then deleted the new folders and put the old ones in, then restarted. Any suggestions on how I can fix this without starting fresh would be mutely appreciated. I still have the backup tarball available.

I’m using DPKG and I have Plex setup to run under user and group ‘mediaserver’ all files and folders are owned by them with the same permission rules they had previously (was a Linux to Linux .
migration both using Ubuntu 20.04 I just got some new(er) old hardware to run my home server on.

Edit: Oddly, the issue seems to have fixed itself overnight? I woke up and it’s working.

Yes. I was under the impression that the issue was caused by some misconfiguration on my side, so I tried to create new servers under multiple devices trying to troubleshoot it.

Update: the issue seems to be gone exactly now (09:04 GMT)

HI Im unsure of the issue im having. It may be related to the certs error. Im able to access on the same network but not remotely on 2 phones at least. I will attempt to see if its a port fowarding isssue or not although this may take time. I have included my logs.

Use Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router to see if the port is open for going any further!

Hello,

I recently attempted to migrate an ubuntu linux based plex install to a new server using the instructions in the support section.

It seemed like it would be pretty straight forward process and initially I had it working, but then I had an issue with the server itself, so I thought it would be ok to revert to the old server as long as the new one was offline.

After resolving the os issues, I again tried to switch over to the new server and that is when I started having certificate issues. I have attached logs, is there anything that can be done?

I too seem to have the dreaded “SSL cert error” even when accessing via the browser, could it be the case that my cert also needs to be reset like others above? Thanks in advance!

ALL:

Just got feedback the generation problem at plex.tv has been fixed.

Going to start resetting certificates.

Please restart your servers.

I will additionally post as I clear certs

@gardz

Please restart your servers

Can mine be reset as well plz?

I had been using a forced port + manually defined Custom server access URLs so I could access my music at work, but resetting it back to UPNP port is failing with “can’t access Server” error.

I see the UPNP port on the router and connecting via LAN if fine (LAN allowed without auth), but no access externally.

When I forced SSL it wouldn’t connect at all (until I did https ://LAN:32400/web)

Careful please.

Resetting certs because of UPNP issues won’t solve the UPnP issue.
May I see the logs ?

Certainly, thanks

@c11umw

PLEASE turn DEBUG logging back on.

You don’t save any space with it off. Logs are fixed length (10 MB).

Unfortunately, I can see nothing.

Please turn DEBUG ON
Keep VERBOSE OFF
SAVE the changes
Restart PMS
Let it sit idle for 2 minutes
Now download logs.

This looks like a problem with a certificate you’re trying to use but there is insufficient info to determine.
