After almost a year I want to point out a couple things in general across all platforms and devices with LiveTV/DVR that has really irritated me with PLEX.
When someone says they’ll have a feature called Live TV and DVR in this day and age it comes with some basic things that are expected. Kind of like saying you’re going to sell a car. We just “KNOW” that certain things are included.
In today’s world, basic LiveTV/DVR include FW/RW, Skip +/-, ability to set/stop/cancel recordings, ability to review and delete recordings, and a grid guide. There are probably others but this should make my point.
After about a year, these basic functions aren’t included on all platforms and functionality is dubious on others. No timetables are even discussed and some really sketchy explanations are provided. For instance on the ROKU they claim a complete rewrite is required and imply the deprecation of some API’s caught them off guard. After very little research it turns out ROKU notified developers back in October of 2015.
So while I do appreciate the complexities and having managed LARGE software developments I understand how civil discourse is needed, I also understand that being forthcoming with your customers and realistically understanding your commitments is every bit as important and probably even more critical.
Y’all said you were launching LiveTV/DVR functionality, charged people to use it, and failed miserably to meet basic requirements even on the platform with the highest market penetration, the ROKU. You still can’t/won’t provide any insight into the availability of features across the board and the process/rapidity for which fixes arrive is somewhat chaotic.
For the record, I have both a ROKU (4660) and an AppleTV 4K (newest) in my daily set up so I can monitor the progress of each. Neither is an acceptable base model LiveTV/DVR after almost a year.
