Still cannot get thumbnails to appear in libraries + shows

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486
Player Version#: 5.52.3 (Plex for VIDAA)

Thumbnail pictures in Plex-for-VIDAA don’t appear (thumbnails appear as frames with unread counts). Happens when viewing libraries and when viewing shows. Plex on FireTV pointing to the server displays thumbnail pictures. Web client (same server) displays thumbnail pictures too. It’s just the Plex client that doesn’t display thumbnail pictures.

Pls help!

What the library looks like:

and what a show looks like:

I’ve found that many cases where I don’t see images for media items on my Plex, it has been because of malformed XML being sent by the server. It’s easy to identify this by checking the developer tools / inspector view when viewing Plex from a browser and looking for XML-related errors.

See e.g. BUG: Malformed XML means playlists with Tidal songs don't show properly
or TV Shows returning malformed XML metadata or 0.9.8.14 - Invalid Media Info XML - Plex/Web and PHT can not play video - #30 or [BUG] Playlist corruption for non-local files etc

hi scztt,

Plex works fine from my web browser - so no errors looking at the console.

Enabled debug logging - nothing obvious from the logs - only ERROR entries are a handful of these:

ERROR - [Req#34841] Unknown metadata type: folder

any other ideas – anywhere else I can check?

Check the settings of your router (or whatever is doing DNS resolution in your home network) https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/

Hey, I’ve just got a new Hisense TV and I’m having exactly the same issue. Did you get a resolution to this issue?

I’ve checked my router and unfortunately, I cant update the DNS settings.

hi there,

My DNS settings look fine - I have the plex media server configured with a static IP on the router.

Don’t believe DNS is the issue - I have a FireTV with Plex installed - running on the same network - and that displays thumbnails fine.

Have tried turning “show console log overlay” (under “advanced” settings) on - but don’t see errors on the overlay that would explain no thumbnails.

Thanks for the assistance thus far - anything else I can check?

hi there,

Nope - no resolution - is there anyone here with VIDAA5 - that has Plex thumbnails rendering correctly?

have tried something else…

The TV has a browser – and I point it to my PMS (:32400) - Plex renders in the browser - and all thumbnails appear correctly! So this cannot be a problem with DNS / any other network config.

This looks to be a bug on the Plex app (running on VIDAA) - pls help - how to log this bug?

FYI - bug report created here - Bug report - cannot view thumbnails of tv-shows + movies in Plex on VIDAA

Did you put something into
Settings - Server - ‘Show Advanced’ - Network - “Custom server access URLs”
or is this field completely empty? (it is by default)

hi there - thanks for the reply

The field is empty - should it be empty?

custom server access URLs

Unless you have an unusual network topology, it should be blank, yes.

Different client types can contain workarounds for this type of issue. It’s pretty common, so don’t discard it right away.

looks like there’s a workaround - see here - Bug report - cannot view thumbnails of tv-shows + movies in Plex on VIDAA - #2 by manoj_chavda
