TV Shows returning malformed XML metadata

Server Version#: 1.13.9.5439
Player Version#: N/A

Certain TV Show metadata is returning malformed XML with duplicate leafCount and viewedLeafCount attributes. See the link below for an example. This causes XML parsing errors for certain applications. From our (Tautulli) testing, the bug seems to be occuring for DVR shows on PMS 1.13.9.5439.

I believe this is related and how it would be appear from a users perspective.

Which requests is this happening on ? And what is the impact of the error ?

Any chance of server logs showing to o with a set of xml ?

This has been referred to the development team

The request is GET /library/metadata/<grandparentRatingKey> to retrieve the show level metadata.

The impact is:

  • displaying incorrect view counts for clients/applications that can still parse the malformed metadata, and
  • complete failure to load TV shows for clients/applications that cannot parse the malformed metadata.

I cannot provide server logs because I have not encountered this issue on my own server (I do not use DVR). The XML above is from a different user’s server.

Thank you for the impact assessment.

I too am having this issue. On Apple TV if I go to TV Shows it says ā€˜Nothing to see here’. Only way I can play any TV Shows is by going to the recently added, which works ok.

On iOS i get the ā€˜Houston we have a problem…’

Quite frustrating.

P.S. Works fine in Web Client

Windows - 1.13.9.5439

I’m also having this issue. One of my TV shows libraries will not load. I can still access the content through on deck or recently added. Not sure if helpful, but below is from the iOS app on my iPad.

unRAID/Plex docker

Server log from iOS app

Oct 20, 2018 21:16:17.059 [0x16d0c7000] ERROR - Network Service: Error in browser handle read: 57 (Socket is not connected) socket=78

iOS log

would need matching server debug log entries - matching to the iOS app logged error

debug logging probably disabled on your server

Have enough diagnostics now. The issue has been referred to the development team and appears to be related to recorded shows

Thanks @sa2000.

jeez, thought I was only one that was having this issue.

The fact that you said it has to do with recorded shows makes sense. I recreated my library because nothing else fixed it. As soon as I recorded some shows it happened again.

Hopefully it’s fixed soon.

I’m having the same problem. I’ve deleted my dvr, my tv shows section, and re-added it and i still cant get the TV Shows section to work!

Having the same issues. I’ve created another TV Library & pointed it to my existing TV Shows location on my media drive. I can access them again now but left with 2x TV libraries & recordings will continue to go into my original tv library until this issue is resolved.

May be it is a different issue. If you follow the Plex Dance sequence it should be ok so long as no new recordings are added

if problem persists, get logs for time of error and screenshot

1.13.9 beta has now been superseded by 1.13.9.5456 which should fix the issue of failure to load TV Shows libraries with recorded media and also episode and watched counts

  • Fix for recorded TV libraries failing to load on iOS. (#9227)
    (and tvOS and Roku)

The update fixed this issue. Thanks!

I am running Version 1.13.10.352 on Ubuntu 18.04 and still have the same problem with wrong show counts and not showing up on Apple products.

The current version is 1.14.0.5470

and if you were on this preview release - the current preview release is later than that
