Still can't connect outside my network... please help!

Good morning folks… thanks in advance for any assistance y’all can provide.

I’ve been a long time plex user (lifetime plex pass) and it seems that after updating today to PMS 1.0.0.2261 my server is unavailable outside the network. I have tried turning it off and on again, obviously. Also tried signing out and back in through the settings page, and have no problems accessing content on my local network. I’ve tried manually port forwarding as well as using UPnP. Upon clicking the retry button on the remote access page, I will usually receive “Unknown IP” for both public and private, but will occasionally get “Unknown IP” for Private and “71.37.32.190 : 0” for public. When I do get the actual IP to show up on public, it disappears immediately upon retrying. I use windows firewall and can see several listings for Plex, all of which are active. I’m really stymied.

I’m on Century Link Gigabit ftth. Windows 10 Home x64. 16GB Ram, 1TB SSD, 4TB HDD, 2600k. blah blah. I’ve attached logs.

Thanks again!

Update: Downgrading to 0.9.12.8 has restored my remote access.

Update 2: After downgrading and successfully connecting I see that the server is trying to get connections through on the proper port on the public side versus port 0 which is what I occasionally see when using 1.0.0.2261. Port 0 is not forwarded so that would never work. Somethings wrong there in 1.0.0.2261.

Is 192.168.115.1 the proper address with outward connectivity to the internet? PMS looks at the first adapter it finds / is defined. If adapter instance 13 is the default or you have no default adapter define, it will float. 169.254.x.x reminds me of the “undefined address” microsoft assigns when it doesn’t get a valid address. (I’m a Linux guy, not windows, just trying to help.

Frankly I don’t even know what you mean by “adapter instance.” I only have the onboard ethernet adapther, however, I have a sneaking suspicion this may have something to do with the fact I have a few virtualboxes installed. They are not currently operating, but they do create some unusual things to enable networking. Virtual adapters and whatnot. I can completely uninstall the VB’s if necessary though I’d rather not if I can avoid it. I am completely befuddled by this though. I just upgraded to the latest PMS to see if it solved the issue and it did not. Here’s another log file if it helps anyone with identifying what is going wrong over here.

edit:

To update anyone who can help, right now the status is as follows: If I manually specify port 32400, connection outside the network fails with the following details: Server Mapping

Private 192.168.0.2 : 32400 Public <-- 174.24.151.103 : 32400 X Internet

This is indeed my IP address. And internally I’m forwarding properly but externally I can’t be reached? I’m lost.

If I do not specify the port manually, the result is worse, with both internal and external IP’s reported “Unknown IP” with big red x’s. >:(

bump Not sure why this shows answered. It isn’t… I really would appreciate anyone’s help!

It shows answered because someone replied to the question. Only you can accept an answer, then you get the green answered icon next to the thread.

Have you tried the latest 1.0.2 Plex Pass release?

I have indeed tried the latest patch from 7/18 but it hasn’t resolved the issue. I know it’s been saying answered but it isn’t, and I don’t know why it said that but I think now it shows as a live question again. Hopefully anyway because this definitely still is ongoing. Thank you for the reply!

Try this. In your router, delete any port forward you configured for Plex. Reboot the router. On the Plex server, make sure manual port is checked, then change the custom manual port to 48711 and click apply. Then disable remote access. Close Plex server. On the router, create a new port forward rule for the static IP of your Plex server (you do have a static IP for your Plex server, correct?) for protocol TCP that points to internal port 32400 and external port 48711. Return to the Plex server and enable remote access.

In case you were unaware, if you create a manual port forward rule in the router and you enable a manual port on remote access, you cannot simply disable remote access and prevent users that have had previously authenticated access - you have to turn of the manual port forward in the router.

Thank you very much! I will try this tonight when I get home and will respond here. Thanks again, I really appreciate you all!

I tried the directions noted but when i tried to reopen pms the webpage just got hungup and wouldn’t connect. I then deleted the manual port and pms started like normal. Just cant figure out why it would not open the page. Im using windows 10 as my server but can’t connect any other computers or tvs in my house yet i can connect to ir from my iPhone, weird and so frustrating! I’m going to try again and post my results later, thanks for any help

Ok, I finally got around to doing all this today. Alas, it has not resolved my problem… here’s a snap of the screen showing the result. I am so befuddled.

Thanks again in advance for any help anyone can provide. I’m really stuck here!!

Go to your router and look at the WAN IP. Now go to http://www.whatsmyip.org and compare that to the WAN IP. Are they the same?

Hmm looks like you dident set the port forward correctly.

Inside ip : 192.168.1.0.2
Inside port : 32400
Remote ip : blank “if its not static.”
outside port : 48711

Save it.

Yes, they are the same.

The remote ip is not blank. It shows the remote ip, but gives a red X next to it.

Once again, thanks in advance if anyone can help me troubleshoot this. I’ve been unable to stream my videos for weeks.

@evilolive Set up a ITC morning meeting request with remote access and I will be able to give you a hand. of just check your firewall / router / and PF.

Just want everyone to be aware that if you ask for remote help and allow someone into your machine that you need to take all precautionary actions as possible, not that I am saying any of our members are inherently malicious but just to say that you should be careful when granting someone access to your machine/network.
