Stop repetative announcments

Every few days I see the Number 1 on my profile pick (Announcements) on my Windows Plex Server. I click on it because I care that Plex may want to tell me something. It’s the same freaking announcement every few days.

The first all-in-one Plex box is here!
June 30, 2016
Plex Media Server software now available on NVIDIA SHIELD!

can this please stop or can someone tell me how to turn it off?

Appreciated thanks.

Are all your clients up-to-date? This should not be happening any more. Also, the announcements are tracked by user so make sure you are logged in on the client.

If this isn’t working, what client are you using?

Hi there. I apologize for my delay in responding to you.

versions are as follows
Under Web (general) is says Version 2.7.4
Under Server Version 1.0.3.2461

I have logged in through the client. If it re appears I will inform. I appreciate your taking the time to reply.

I’ve been logged into my Plex Server account a couple of times since posting about this issue and again today I get the announcement:

I had the same issue when I started using Plex (thread). I guess, this could possibly be the same problem. My browser cleared the browsing history (incl. cookies), when I closed my browser. If you remove cookies from your browser on exit (or antivirus), the announcement count will be reset/visible on each session / login.

Wow really? That’s really inconvenient because I clear my cookies and cache and everything web related sometimes more than 3 times a day. Seems ignoring announcements is key. Seems counter productive.

Thanks mm98 .

I have added cookie clean exception on “plex.tv” and “app.plex.tv” (in Chrome), this works here. So i can still empty cache on exit.

Good idea, I have just added that also on your advice, thanks for the suggestion. I’ll monitor it to see how it goes, thanks again mm98 :)>-

Clearing cookies or the cache should have no affect. As I said, the read/unread is tracked through your user account. As long as you read the announcement, it should stay marked that way. I just tested by going to an incognito window in Chrome, logging into plex.tv with my account, launch Plex Web, and all my announcements are still marked as read. Unless you are running a really old version of PMS and an old version of the local PlexWeb to go with it.

You asked my version above and I answered. > @ants pants said:

it has happened twice (again) in the last 4 days. perhaps there is some random issue with a few users because since 2014 (from reading another post) this has occurred for some. I get it that PLEX really likes Announcements. There are 80 choices for announcements in settings in my web interface alone but not one that allows me to prevent the type I am getting from showing up on my PLEX PC Client Software.

I did see your response before, I was just giving an example of when this might not work.

Which Plex PC Client Software are you referring to. That is not the correct name for any of Plex’s software so I want to make sure we are looking at the same thing.

I’ve had the same problem about three to five times on my 24/7 “Server” PC running Windows 10 Pro 64bit in the timespan of about 2 months. The latest Plex Media Server Version is always installed.
Obviously logged in because it’s the Server, not a local client.

To be clear, there are 2 places to log in when referring to the Plex Web client. You can log in the server. This is under Settings \ Server \ General. And you can log in the user accessing Plex Web, this is through the user picker you see in the beginning if you do not have automatic sign in enabled, or at the top right corner in the client where you see either your chosen avatar or the first letter of your username. It is this latter (logging in a user to a client) which controls what announcements are seen.
