I have an issue where a certain title stutters/won’t play from remote access.
From what I can tell this title has almost the same format, same bitrate, audio, hdr etc from other titles that work, at least what I can tell from info screen, but most files plays flawlessly, and this one doesn’t.
Even certain titles with better bitrates, large size, longer, etc will play, but not this…
And this only happens when using an outside connection to the plex server. On home network the title works flawlessly.
Any ideas why this can be? Could be a thousand reasons I guess, but anything that could point me in the right way helps. Thanks!
Home network has 500/100, outside 100/100. But like I mentioned, All titles I’ve tried so far from remote location have worked fine, just not this one… So I don’t think it’s the connection speeds?
Since it only affects certain titles and not consistently I’m not sure where to start looking for errors.
Most clients by default force remote streaming to a bitrate of 2 Mbps or so, which usually requires a transcode. You can change that on the client by going into the client settings and setting Remote streaming quality to maximum.
One possible reason for stuttering (if you mean buffering), could be if your video has subtitles. Certain subtitle types are usually burned into a video when a transcode happens, and subtitle burning isn’t able to use HW transcoding. So on a system that can HW transcode your vids might end up slamming to a crawl when it has to use an under-capable CPU to handle the transcode.
If this isn’t it, well… I dunno. Look to see if it transcodes remotely anyway, just to see if that might be the difference between home and remote.
remote streaming bitrate is set to maxium already sadly =/
Same issue with and without subtitles, but subtitles work on titles with even higher bitrates, length and so on. It’s just this particular title that seems to have an issue
Hm. Hard to tell with so little info. If it’s the particular file, then I’d recommend you re-encode the file. Run it through Handbrake/ffmpeg or re-aquire a new source of the video. See if this fixes the stuttering.
