*The only way i get subtitles is to download them in tandem with the original publication, Am i expecting this to be not needed?

Good day all, any ideas on why i get no subtitles? anybody else have this issue solved or not?

thanks!

… this means I am the only one with no subtitles if not downloaded as SRT?

I don’r really understand the question/issue.

What do you mean by “in tandem” or “publication”

cannot seem to answer you directly on this thread so apologies for the message. my subtitles are not showing unless i get the movie/show with the SRT file named the same way. i thought i could choose any of the many subtitle choices inside plex player if i only had the movie file? am i wrong with this assumption? thank you for responding!

subtitles files have always required to be the named the same as the movie or episode file. Except for the language code, forced or SHD

If you movie files it named…

Batman (2003) 4k DolbyVision supercut.mkv

The a subtitle file needs to be named

Batman (2003) 4k DolbyVision supercut.en.srt

Not sure if i got the entire reply here so will retry my elaboration. My sub titles only work if i download a SRT file from the web and save it to the same directory. I have found that once in a while sub titles will work if i do not have the SRT file but it only lasts for minutes then drops away again.

is the plex server suppose to be handling the overlay of subtitles if selected without SRT’s files being present?

I don’t really know what this means. if you don’t have a subtitle file then what type of sub is it? Do you mean you used the subtitle search to apply one? If you mean an embedded sub what type of sub is it

I’ll try again, lets say I am watching a movie like Equalizer #3 (maybe you have seen it) i hit pause once i hear non english speach in the movie and drill into choosing the most popular subs choice. Then i go back and hit unpause, this shows no subs if i back up a bit (reverse say 3 minutes) then allow to play the subs are shown but only until only english starts (which is fine) but when non english starts to occur again zero subs show and even if i check if subs are checked as before i get nothing… so there’s this issue.

I seem to only get subs if i download the SRT file with the movie (if it available in the rip). mostly these days very little SRT’s are available to be found.

Is Plex not suppose to take care of it’s own subs and encode them onto stream when watching?

where are you doing this “drilling”? I have no idea what that means.

If you mean the subtitle search in subtitle menu those are SRT subtitles and they are from opensubtitle.org. We do not maintain them.

I’m not saying there may not be some issue on our end but still please confirm that is what you mean by “drilling”

drilling meaning moving through the menu’s , appologies being in IT for 40 years has its idioms burned into my brain.

I cannot reproduce the issue yet. still looking into it
