Subtitle offsets not available in Android Plex player

restarted the server (newest version) to be safe
installed the update from play store, am now on version 8.2.1.18636 (1cc6ce64), no newer versions on play store
Made sure all quality settings were set to default maximum/recommended
cleared cache, restarted phone to be safe
However, subtitle offset is still not available. Am I missing a step?

So Playback Info says Direct Play like here. (original quality does not mean direct play)

How do I use directplay?
I can find no such setting in the android app

There is not specific settings for it. If the file is compatible and you don’t have quality lowered then it will direct play. Meaning it will unless it can’t (due to file incompatibility) or is told not to ( due to network/quality settings).

If it is transcoding it should have the basic reason why on the playback info screen

I checked the server dashboard. apparently the files are directplaying when I have original quality. I’m guessing the app showing directplay is not always the case
This unfortunately means the issue is not resolved. subtitle offset should be available without transcoding, but it is not.

Subtitle offset only works with external text subtitles. Your screenshot above shows internal subtitles.

You can adjust the timing offset for an external text based subtitle. You can not change the offset of a subtitle embedded in a video file or image based subtitles.

Adjust Subtitle Offset now appears when I use a non-Plex Pass login on my Android phone and have selected an external SRT subtitle.

Holy hell, there it is!

Thanks, I understand where I went wrong in my lasts tests now.
So to summarise: subtitle offset is ONLY available on external SRTs, and only when it’s not being transcoded

Wow, very much thank you!!!
This problem was present since I started using Plex for a year now. Since a few days the subtitle offset feature for external subtitles is restored in my android app even without the need of updating the app via the Play store or updating my server.
Also subtitle offset is suddenly available in the Plex web app via the browser, just like it was already available in the ‘Plex media server’ interface before.

Thank you! This is a great improvement of my Plex experience!

Hi All,

I am running a file with external subtitles I found from “More…” option in the subtitle section.

I still can’t find Subtitle Offset in my options. I’m using " Play Original Quality"

Can you please help?
Thanks

play original quality does not mean direct play. what does it say under playback info.

Hi, here’s the screenshot of the playback info.

Please let me know if you need additional info in this regard.

Thanks

Hi,
I have access to the subtitle delay feature, it’s very handy !
Unfortunately the Alt+S shortcut doesn’t work (I have a Flirc or keyboard plugged in), is there any shortcut available to do it please ?
