Subtitles offset on Android revisited

Server Version#:1.18.7.2457
Player Version#: 7.28.0.15501

I saw a few threads about this, but in any of them there was no clear answer… so retrying:

On my LG tv I have subtitle offset menu available when I use direct play, so I know it exists still (and works great!), so:
Is subtitle offset available on Android mobile as advertised and if so, how can I enable it? Here’s what my phone menus look like currently:

Android not listed as supported platform.

Uhm… No, Android Mobile IS listed as a supported platform in the page you linked (at least it is listed today) and yet I have the same problem the OP has.

Hard to believe I would have missed it at the top of the list.

Anyway… discussed this in another thread a few days ago (linked below).

Net result for Android mobile is:

  • If you log in with a Plex Pass account, subtitle offset appears.
  • If you log in with a non-Plex Pass account, subtitle offset does not appear.
  • Documentation does not say a Plex Pass account is required.
  • Unclear if working as designed or if this is a bug. Plex will have to get involved.

A wee bump; any plex staff that can look into this?

Still waiting for this!

Yeah, an official statement would be fine.

If this is really a plex pass only feature, then it’s a shame. Such trivial player features shouldn’t be sold. Services should be, like ad-free videos and advanced features like syncing. I understand that.

But I don’t think this is the case because subtitle offset is available on web, and I do remember seeing the feature on my phone also. It just disappeared since.

FYI, subtitle offset should now appear for non Plex Pass accounts.

It works only with external text subtitles. Also, the video must be direct play / direct stream. No transcoding.
