Subtitles default?

For some reason, almost every TV Show I watch on my Apple TV defaults to showing subtitles ON in English, which I don’t need because I’m an English speaker.

I keep forgetting when I start an episode to go into the episode settings and turn the English subtitles OFF.

Is there someplace in defaults where I can set subtitles OFF as the default and then if I do need them, go into the episode settings and manually turn them OFF?

There is an option in web app, Settings->Server->Languages. Set subtitles mode to “manually selected”

So, leave auto select ON, but set Subtitle Mode to “Manually Selected”?

‘Auto Select’ is not only for subtitles, but for audio languages too.
disabling it won’t make much of a difference if all your files only have one audio language track.

But if you have files with several languages, you want to keep this ‘On’ and select your preferred audio language automatically for you.
