Subtitles does not load automaticly

Hey everybody,

i got this weird problem since the last update (version 4.51.3)…

Since my native language is not english, i excuse my self already for my grammer/language errors and or bad wording/ Sentices…
Since the last updates my subtitles doesnt load in plex (what it did do in the past).

for example :

i got a movie in a directory together with a couple subtitles (subrip format).
plexmovie.mkv
plexmovie.en.srt
plexmovie.nl.srt

Before the update : plex just loaded the movie and the subtitles in plex, and it would select my prefered language subtitle in plex when i would like to play the movie.

Current situation : plex see that there is been added a new movie to the server, but it doesnt see the subtitles in the same directory.
I need to “upload” them to plex server before plex sees those subtitles.
When i click in the webplayer to load subtitles i get the option to search or upload a subtitle
and only after uploading the subtitle i can use the subtitle that already is in the same folder as the movie.

Is this a new feature (not a fan ofcourse) or am i doing something wrong (turned on local assets already) ?
Is this a know issue, or is this done with a reason behind it.
I would like to know a little bit more about it because if i need to “upload” all my subtitles for my movies before i can use them in plex, then there will be a very big problem when i need to reinstall my plex server …

i hope some-one can shed some light on this issue and how (if its possible) to change plex so the subtitle problem is gone

Thank you already for your time and thank you if you can help me in solving this very anoying problem.

With kind greetings

Is this a library which is still using the old movie agent?
And if so, did you perhaps disable “Local Media Assets” somewhere in
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies
?

Hey Ottokerner,
I don’t know if it’s the old or new movie agent, how can I find it out ?
And the local media assets are enabled in the settings.

Thank you for the reply and help

Edit your library
go to the “Advanced” tab
see what is selected as “Scanner”.
If it says “Plex Movie”, it is the new one.

Where are your media files stored?
Have you tried with 3-letter language codes? (.eng .ned)

Thank You @OttoKerner the Scanner trick did it

I also have problems with the way subtitles are handled in plex. the subtitles available in portuguese are very bad. English subtitles are also not very good. I prefer to download only WEB-DL files with subtitles. extract the original egenda and translate using Qtranslate with Yandex. Saved in the movie folder. As of the latest versions of plex, I am no longer able to use it. Plex insists on downloading bad subtitles instead of using the one available in the folder. I configured not to use opensubtitle and even deleted the login. But it does not work. In addition, if I update the caption, the plex continues to display the old caption. Even updating the database and cleaning the recycle bin does not work properly. in previous versions it resolved by removing the chapter from the folder, cleaning the base and returning the file. Now I have to remove the whole series. all seasons and after cleaning the base, return the series to the plex. But the bug of searching for wrong subtitles and without synchronism continues. as i depend on subtitles in portuguese to see the series i am no longer able to use plex. Please help me (and to all users who only speak Portuguese). Thanks! Carlos
