Subtitles fade out after ~20 seconds of playback on Hisense Roku TV's only

Server Version#: Version 1.24.1.4931
Plex Roku App Version 6.9 build 1

It only occurs on my two Hisense Roku TV’s, not my Roku Premiere, NVidia Shield, Plex Web or Android Plex apps. Just the Roku TV app.

There’s precious few settings exposed regarding subtitles. If I set “Burn Subtitles” to Always, it fixes the problem, however my server starts stumbling on 4k HDR titles when it tries to burn subs and won’t play. I don’t actually mind the subs always being on (in fact, that’s my goal, but not necessary) but that setting doesn’t work as a solution because my server can’t handle it for everything.

What happens is when you turn on the subtitles, they play for roughly 20-30 seconds, then fade away. They’ll actually visibly fade away if currently onscreen, though if there’s not any on screen at that point they’ll simply stop appearing at all.

This seems like it’s a feature, not a bug - IIRC there was a feature that showed subtitles briefly when you skipped around - and it seems that’s the case here. But I can’t find a setting related to that on the Roku Plex App, and it’s not server side particularly given it ONLY happens on those specific clients.

I have “Automatically adjust quality” turned off.

Skipping forwards or backwards turns the subtitles back on, but again only for a brief time before they fade away again. Turning subtitles off and on again also brings them back - and again, only for a brief time.
