Why are Subs not showing up? I have the subs and the video files in the same folder

You’ll need to stick to the official naming schema for Plex to pickup your sidecar subtitles.

Example:

TV  <- the folder linked to your library
  The Strain
    Season 02
      The Strain - s02e02.mp4
      The Strain - s02e02.en.srt
      The Strain - s02e02.de.srt
      ...

I have tried that recently with another show and I just re named these subs in that format and still not showing. I never had any issues in the past not naming properly, as long as in the same folder they would still show, just as “unknown”

You are also using an additional subfolder level for each episode. This is neither necessary nor supported in Plex. External subtitles won’t work under these circumstances.

Thank you both for the help, unfortunately I have applied proper naming and also removed the additional subfolder and still nothing. I now have all episodes and srt files properly named and in one folder and the subtitles are still not showing. I even did the plex dance after applying both suggestions and still nothing. So far the only thing that works is to manually upload them one by one on the pms webpage.

Please show the file and folder names again, like they are now.

Did you Analyze the episode? I think that allows Plex to pick up new in-place srt’s.

Nope, that is for internal subtitles.
External subtitles are picked up with Refresh Metadata.

I got it working… so it seems the naming of the srt needs to be identical to to the video file plus the .en , then doing a refresh metadata has fixed it. all subs are now showing with the exception of ep13(which is not identical) after a refresh. Thanks for the help!!. in the past i could be lazy and not name properly and they would still show, just as unknown if in the same folder.

You’ve still got it wrong. This won’t work reliably.
Even if you got it working for now, it can break at any time if you add more seasons or episodes or shows or change anything else.

You are missing one folder level.
Please refer to the folder structure shown above and the link to the supported naming schema.
