Subtitles on Plex

Hi,

Been using plex for a while now, and I want to get subtitles to download and display by default on all media. Followed this guide

https://www.howtogeek.com/284125/how-to-automatically-download-subtitles-with-plex-media-server/

However there are problems.

  1. It doesn’t actually work. ! I can manually download subtitles on a per episode basis, however performing a full refresh of metadata or rescanning the library does NOT automatically download subtitles as described in the guide. (which sux)

  2. I have myself (admin) and 3 managed users setup. If I manually download the subtitles for a TV show / movie, then switch to one of the managed users and look at the same TV show / movie it says no subtitles are available. (which also sux)

I recently moved from Kodi to Plex and everything has been an improvement over Kodi apart from this. I’m trying to get this sorted so my Mum can watch content via Plex, bus she needs subtitles on all media. She’s 88 and can work the TV remote OK, but messing around to download subtitles per show is not on the cards, it needs to be done automatically.

Anything I’m missing here, or is this a known issue ?

Plex Version 1.19.4.2935 and I see the same behaviour on all clients on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, LG WebOS, Android Mobile and Chrome.

You can’t ‘Automatically Download’ subtitles.

You get them one at a time.

So the article I referenced that says you can is a lie ?

It works fine for me are you sure you put it at the top and put the correct password and username from your opensubtitles account? But one problem I had was that opensubtitles doesn’t allow to download a lot op subtitles at once because they think you’re a machine.

You can also try using the Sub-Zero plugin
