Subtitles suddenly no longer work on Android Smart TV but work on iOS devices

PlexPass subscriber here for about a year, running PMS on a Synology NAS serving 2 TVs (one Sony with Android, the other is a Firestick, both running Plex for Android).

I recently upgraded my PMS and the subtitles stopped working on both Plex Android players. They work fine on iOS devices, so it isn’t the content itself.

I’ve been able to play the same content on an iPad (displaying subtitles) and simultaneously on a smart TV (with no subtitiles). Looking in the PMS dashboard shows both are Direct Play and have subtitles (VOBSUB) activated.

I suspected the Sony TV but I’m having problems on the other TV with the Firestick so I think the problem is the Plex player itself, or some setting?

I could use some help, thanks!
