Subtitles

1 week ago my plex server is showing Spanish subtitles in English, I look for the file and when verifying the language it is in Spanish but plex shows it in English.
I checked the files uploaded more than a week ago and the subtitles are displayed in the correct language

Plex does not translate subtitles so something else must be going on. Can you provide me the subtitle file?

Are you sure that was the subtitle that was used? Can you provide me the actual file from your PMS? Can you also provide me the XML file from Plex Web?

This started to happen after the last update and only happens with the new content that I am uploading. which have been 3 chapters, all of the above if it shows the correct subtitle

I uninstalled plex, did the installation again and it worked fine about 2 days
Now again the subtitles are showing them to me in English although the language of the srt file is SpanishI uninstalled plex, did the installation again and it worked fine about 2 days

Please provide the XML for the video as requested above. Plex does not translate subtitles so if the subtitles are in Spanish, they should show that way.

Where can I get the xml?

See my comment from before. There is a link to the instructions.

This is Subtitle

You have 2 subtitles in there. They are both labeled as English. The image of the content clearly shows it’s in Spanish. So again, it wasn’t Plex translating the subtitles, it is labelled wrong in the file. You can use an app like mkvpropedit to change the language to say Spanish so you know you are picking the right one.

You only showed 1 subtitle, so I don’t know if the other one is actually English or Spanish. To be clear, Plex does not actually read the file and determine the language, it shows the language based on how it is labelled in the file.

Of course, I would understand that this would be the case if, from the moment of installation, that happened, but this begins to happen a few weeks after installing Plex, and in this occasion it happened with all the series and movies synchronized since last week, all of the above , show the correct language

This episode is one week before the error occurred, and is in the same way

same name for both file and subtitle

The file you referred to previously had embedded subtitles. These use an embedded tag to identify the language. They were specifically tagged as English, so PMS shows them as English.

For your new file above, you are using external srt files. You are not including the language code in the filename. If you don’t use a language code, PMS will treat them as an “unknown” language. As shown in the XML for episode 2, it will show “Desconocido” which is Spanish for “Unknown”.

The only files that have embedded subtitles are anime, the series or movies are always SRT
I changed my computer, synchronized the folders and served a week and a half, now everything that goes up takes me the English subtitles being that they are in Spanish
When this happens I must uninstall plex and reinstall it.

Actually, looking at this, it’s quite clear that episode of Watchmen has 2 embedded English subtitles.

By the way, I have the same exact version of that file and I have the embedded subs too.
Anyway, you can just choose to use the external sub in the pre-play screen.

Many MKVs now embed English subtitles.

the subtitle is in Spanish, but plex shows it to me in English
This error happens every 2 weeks or so.
If at this moment I uninstall plex, I reinstall them, it will show me the subtitles correctly
but in 2 more weeks, the new files that I upload will show them only in English even if the SRT file has Spanish language

There are even series that tell me that they have no subtitles, being that if

  1. Your files are still named wrong. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
  2. You are not using Season 0x subfolders. If you want your external subtitles to get recognized by Plex reliably, use Season subfolders.
  3. the file names of your subtitles don’t mention their language. You need to add the 3-letter language code to the file name, right before the file name extension. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200471133-adding-local-subtitles-to-your-media/

I think the reason is the point 2, the name of the subfolder.
You don’t really need to add “es” to the name of the subtitle if you don’t wanto to, since it would appear anyway in the list (as “unknown”, so it wouldn’t be chosen automatically).
Also, I don’t think that the name of the file makes a difference. So just try renaming the subfolder.
