Sudden Buffering Issues, without transcoding, all players

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4021
Player Version#: 1.27.2.1599-7689068b

This new issue is driving me absolutely crazy.

All devices are either connected via 1gb Ethernet or via strong WiFi signal (>600 Mbps)

Internet speed is > 400 mbps, wired to the server.

Server specs:

  • 32GB Ram
  • Core i7 4790K
  • Ubuntu 20.04
  • OS & Plex running on dedicated SSD
  • Plex Library stored on different dedicated SSD
  • 14TB drive for media storage
  • nVIDIA GeForce 1050Ti configured and tested for transcoding

All has been working fine for months, even streaming two 4K videos requiring transcoding.

Now, all of a sudden, I am getting buffering on all devices, does not matter what I play.

Here the specs of the file:

I have reboot my router, my modem and the server.

The most recurrent issues in the logs are:

ERROR - SSDP: Error parsing device schema for http://192.168.x.xx:2869/upnphost/udhisapi.dll?
WARN - [Chromecast] Did not move header "accept" to query string. This can result in an unnecessary OPTIONS preflight request.
ERROR XML: Entity: line 1:
ERROR XML: parser
ERROR XML: error :
ERROR XML: Start tag expected, '<' not found
ERROR XML: status=ok
ERROR XML: ^
ERROR Error parsing content.
ERROR Error parsing XML: Error parsing file.

For clarification, in the logs there are mainly 4 IPs for which I am getting SSDP errors: my laptop, google chromecast 4k and chromecast with google TV.

Check your media hard drive. If nothing has changed then your HD may be failing. If the server has issues reading the data off of the drive it would cause this issue.

Thank you for the feedback! :slightly_smiling_face:

The smartmon tools utility did not report any errors with the media drive, I am now going to run more in depth tests on the other drives drive

Looks like your server may be having problems finding devices on your network. Two things I would suggest.
Make sure your default route on your server points to your router - if it doesn’t your box may not find the routing table.
Second is create a host file on your sever. You need the network names of all your Plex playing devices and their IP address. You will want to move to static addresses for this to be a permanent solution.

Thank you toopy1964, but that did not work.

Same constant and extremely annoying issues.

Let me share more details and feedback.

  • Default route is set, even if up to 2 weeks ago I did not have any issues at all
  • All ChromeCast devices now have fixed IP
  • Rebooted the server, the router and the modem
  • Checked the server again (physically) for any anomalies (cables, weird sounds, whatever), but nothing, the hardware works just FINE.

I noticed that the buffering happens, the whole server is losing connectivity. There must be something else going on here…

The bloody Netgear Powerline!
It gave up the gost after a blackout, I replaced it and all is perfect again!

Busted hardware is a pain, and a pain to find sometimes. Glad you found it!
