Hey @ChuckPa, I’m having the same issue for the last few days, though have not had any such problems for years. Have tried everything I can think of to try and diagnose the issue. The server is still “not available outside your network” though sometimes people can access it indirectly, but that barely works as well. Any guidance you can give would be greatly appreciated. I’ve attached my server logs so you can have a look.
I am having the same (I think?) issue.
Actually, I am not even talking “Direct connection”, I don’t have even my usual “Indirect connection” (complicated router + VPN connection).
But for the past 5-6 days, I am unable to even see the server outside my LAN and even use Plexamp for music (for which Indirect connection was more than fine).

- Turn off Remote Access for 1 hour
- At end of that hour, Restart PMS
- Wait for it to be fully up and stable
- Enable Remote Access
- Let it turn green (opportunistically)
- If it does not remain green
– Pull the DEBUG logs ZIP file
– Attach the ZIP

You have a network adapter / LAN IP configuration problem.
The adapter is reconfiguring itself
– Lose / bad cable?
– DHCP server is flaky ?
– If on WiFi – NOT GOOD
It flaps here: (bad indication)

If the NAS is set for DHCP – consider making its IP address static (always advisable)
If already static – start checking cables

I did have a DHCP, I switched to static IP and rebooted the NAS

It is not on WiFi, so you’re recommending checking cables?
May I ask, if it’s a fauly cable, why isn’t there any issue with local streaming? It works flawless even with 4k content so I wouldn’t have thought of cables.

Thanks for the help but unfortunately it didn’t work. I disabled remote access, waited an hour, restarted my system and enabled remote access. The first time I tried it, it wouldn’t move past the “connecting server” status condition. I then decided to try the whole process again and this time it turned green saying it was fully accessible outside my network. However my “private ip” is displaying “unknown ip” with a red x, my “public ip” is also displaying “unknown ip” with a red x leading to the internet. I tried accessing my server outside the network but was only able to have an indirect connection with a maximum quality of 420p, though files are 1080p. I disabled remote access again and turned it back on and my public and private ip’s showed back up. But now the status is back to red with the server not available outside the network.
I have attached the new logs for your diagnosis.

Hello, I’m running into the same issue. I can stream from my local PMS without issue - any remote clients (mobile/TV/web) cannot. Remote access has been working for a long time without issue, recently updated the PMS docker container - not sure if that’s related. I did disable Remote Access for an hour, then reboot PMS, re-enable Remote Access, still no luck.
Your server is indeed getting a ‘not reachable’ reply from plex.tv attempting to connect to your WAN port.

As I reply now,
- I can see the server contacted plex.tv about 35 minutes ago
- The server is running on Unraid
- The certificate is valid (June 10,2023)
Couple things to check. I will use my Unraid system as example.

The NAT port-forwarding rule in the modem-router is correct for the port you’ve selected – OR – you are using UPNP / automatic and the modem/router isn’t all jammed up/full (it happens a lot)

You’ve told PMS either automatic (UPNP) or the manual port number
Here, I am using port 31416
Now the matching port-forward rule in my router/firewall to forward 31416 → 32400 for my server.
Using my info as a guide, check your modem/router first
Then, if using a firewall on the host, make certain it allows 32400/tcp
Make certain you didn’t accidentally get ‘bridge’ or ‘nat’ in your container defintion.
Here you see I’m using HOST networking (keep it simple)
Same thing with me. Server was working fine. Today I get an error while trying to play any of my media.

The above shows Plex.tv trying to contact your WAN IP address at the given port (32400 in this case)

Is WAN PORT 32400 (in the router) – FORWARDED – to LAN IP:32400 of the server ?

Synology has a firewall. If it’s enabled, was a custom rule written to ALLOW port 32400/tcp – this is 32400 at DSM – to connect ?
Now do the “Can you see me” test using your WAN PORT (the one you told Plex to use).

Synology does have firewall enabled and no, no custom rule. I will attempt to fix. Thanks for the assist. But it was working fine for a while(?). It seems weird to me that it is a firewall issue after it had been working. But logs do not lie, do they?

This type of sudden failure. especially when everyone else is suddenly having them,
WREAKS of ISP modem/router firmware updates .
It can’t be randomly working for me but not you and everyone else.
I have pfsense. I am in control. There are no surprises and it always works.

@ChuckPa tried again but no dice. Would reinstalling the server help?
Thank you for the info, my Port Forwarding rule is attached - unchanged from when I originally set it up, PMS shows Remote Access is working, but still same issue. The PMS docker is setup to use Host. Other thoughts?
Last check:
- Log into the modem/router,
- Get the WAN IP it reports
- Now open your browser
- whatsmyip.org
- Compare the two.
- If they do not match – your ISP is playing games and has applied a layer of NAT
- Plex.tv sees that Remote Access is working
- Have you fully restarted (Force STOP / terminate all apps then restart) ?
