For this post the player version is actually N/A since it’s about an official Plex Support Article Extras that is missing key information.
It assumes everyone is on Linux by using forward slashes and omitting drive letter.
It omits a major requirement to have “Enable Cinema Trailers” checked in the advanced settings of the applicable movie library. This cost me over an hour to figure out after analyzing logs, etc.
There is no mentioned that this feature is not available for TV Shows.
regarding #1:
I suppose the examples in that support articles aim on the organization structure… it doesn’t really matter if there’s a Linux, Mac or Windows based platform underneath when it comes to the organization itself, does it (you won’t manually assign those local extras by their full paths).
regarding #2:
I’m not sure that’s correct. The option you mention seems to be about allowing to play trailers before a movie… IIRC it doesn’t play a role in Plex picking up local extras (though let me double-check that)
regarding #3:
that’s definitely wrong. local extras are working in tv-show libraries IF you’re using the Plex TV Series agent. Keep in mind that only a limited set of apps is capable of displaying local extras on all tiers of a show (show, season, episode) at this time – namely that’s Plex for iOS and Android (mobile). https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/

Can’t assume everyone is smart enough to know the difference between OS paths.
Regarding #2:
I’ll assume you were able to confirm this is true. Couldn’t get it to work until I enabled it and this it worked.
Regarding #3:
Thanks for clarifying, mine is set to Plex Series Scanner. Once again can’t assume people know this. The majority of my testing was on Roku. The majority of people that access my server use either Roku or Fire TV.
