SUPPORT: Plex Is Refusing To Add Media

The following files will not get added into Plex under any content type category.

  • /Volumes/Crucial/Media/TV/Secrets of Playboy/Season 1/Secrets of Playboy - S01E01 - The Playboy Legacy.mkv
  • /Volumes/Crucial/Media/TV/Secrets of Playboy/Season 1/Secrets of Playboy - S01E02 - The Girl Next Door.mkv

I’ve never had this problem before. I can access these files with VLC on my Firestick so I know the files are not corrupt nor is this a permissions issue. Any help is much appreciated.

Look at your server logs after a scan and see what is says about those files or directories.

Files with SXXEXX notation will only get picked up in a TV library

I take it you checked this for the system user running the Plex Media Server… not just by being able to see the files „as yourself“?

Done a quick test myself and doing a fix match searching for Secrets of Playboy does not find the show so I’d imagine its either unmatched on your plex server or its been matched against something else incorrectly. To fix either …

  • rename your folder from Secrets of Playboy to Secrets of Playboy {tmdb-155892} which will include a match id tag telling plex exactly what to match against – if you do this you might also want to do a plex dance on the show
  • fix match the show in plex searching for tmdb-155892 if you can find it in unmatched or what its been incorrectly matched against

Either of these methods should find the show for you and if not then best to upload your server logs for more details.

Please share the specific file names / structures. You can directly check the server logs if needed; not sure you’re catching those with your command.

Edit: not aware of a general bug; I’ve been adding some new episodes without issue

If your indeed getting no logs then it could be a permissions problem. Have you checked that ? Is there anything in the logs folder ? If so could you attach the full server logs to this thread so folks could take a look.

When you say you empty the logs I assume you also stop plex and start plex again afterwards. If you forcibly delete the logs as say a root user the server process will not create new logs immediately. The process would need to be started again.

You also have a snippet of a log entry in one of your post related to SLOW QUERY so how do you get that if you have no logs.

Please also supply a directory list of your logs folder ls -la /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Logs/. I assume you are on linux as you are using tail.
