Synology - Cannot see any folders in share when adding media library

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2029
Player Version#: not sure

Hi,
I have a new Synology NAS and installed Plex. When I go to create a new LIbrary, I get a list of root folders. My main share, called DATA, isn’t listed directly. So I go to “volume1” first and inside I do see DATA, but in it I see no sub-folders. There are dozens, including all the content I want added. Tried creating a new share of the folder, verified that Plex user has read/write access, and same thing. Cannot seem to see inside the share.

Another share is showing up however, but not the one I want.

Any advice?
Ritaly

Thank you @ChuckPa for your assistance above. Unfortunately, the permissions do not appear to be the whole story. I still cannot see folders inside my main data share. :frowning:

This is what I see in the Plex Options:

Over in my Synology I have this:

In the Share Permissions tab I have this:

So as far as I can tell its set up how the article says I should be setting it up, but I am not seeing any of the contents of the DATA share. I did just re-apply the permissions and rebooted the Synology to make sure. Still no luck.

Anything else?

Yep.. It appears your permissions were manually edited in FileStation as well.
This isn’t a problem.

  1. Keep those share permissions where they are. This is how it should be done.
  2. You now need to also grant permission in each of the subdirectories. it’s likely you’ll need do this from now on unless you create a new share for your data and let DSM work in default mode.

The corrective action is done in File station.

For each of your subdirectories in DATA,

  1. Right-click
  2. Properties
  3. Permissions tab
  4. Owner = R/W/E, Group & Other = R/E as shown below.
  5. Make certain to check “This folder, sub-folders, and files”

MODERATOR EDIT: 01/01/2024
DSM 6 – user Plex
DSM 7 – system internal user PlexMediaServer

Did that to some folders. Still nothing when adding a library. :sob:

Played with the permissions in File Station, huh?

Easy solution:

Right click on the share → Properties → Permissions
Make sure user plex is listed; add if not there (just like my example)
Grant Read permissions after adding user plex.
Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files.
Hit the OK.
