Broken Server

Hi Brains Trust,

Today I decided to see how Plex would look integrated into HA. I’m assuming that’s what has led to my server instance having disappeared. It’s running on a synology NAS for 4 years without issue.

I thought at first a DB restore before moving onto trying to claim it. I’ve uninstalled on the NAS and reinstalled and claimed the instance but still my server and media is not showing up.

I’d welcome any ideas to recover this. All the media is OK.

Thanks in advance for any input.

If on a Synology NAS:

  1. The package installer gives you the ability to reclaim it while in installs.
  1. If the file permissions inside the PlexMediaServer share got damaged, PMS won’t work right. You can fix them with this:

Thanks for the post. I did the uninstall and reinstall with the key claim and no joy. I’ll check the permissions. It’s odd as the preferences xml file has my NAS listed and in the IOS app it can see it, doesn’t allow me to select any sources and then states it’s offline.

Thinking I might have to uninstall it completely as long as it doesn’t touch my media libraries.

I would first do the following:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Create and run, as ‘root’, the Task Scheduler task to fix the permissions.
    – Be certain to have it email you the results so you know when it’s done (it does take a while).
  3. Next, Uninstall w/ KEEP (first radio button) option
  4. Reinstall the same SPK file again – use the “Plex Claim Token” option
  5. when you get the token “Get Plex Claim Token” and paste it
you only have about 4 minutes for the token to remain viable.
  6. When it’s done installing, it must respond with “claimed for: YOUR_USERNAME”. If not, then it failed.

If it fails:

  1. FileStation
  2. Navigate: PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  3. Right-Click: “Logs” → “Compress to Logs.zip”
  4. Download the ZIP
  5. Attach here.

I’ll look at what’s happening. It’s usually a minor network configuration error.

Thanks again followed the steps, the script result was normal. Logs attached, appreciate it.

Based on your logs above, I would recommend you do the following:

  1. Plug the Ethernet cable into port 1 on the back of the NAS and not port 2 as it is now (Plex often defaults to the first port when Preferred network interface is set to ‘any’)
  2. Reboot your modem/router and everything connected to it, including wireless devices
  3. Open Plex/Web in your browser using http://NAS_IP_Address:32400
  4. Go to Plex Settings > Network > Preferred network interface and set it to the connection/IP Address of the NAS and click on Save Changes (bottom of page)
  5. Go to Plex Settings > General and make sure the server is Claimed.

Fingers crossed, you should be good to go after that, but if not, grab a new set of logs and attach them to your post.

I did see the eth0 and had considered this but as it hadn’t changed in a long time I didn’t make any changes. I’ll do as you suggest and cross my fingers.

Thanks for reviewing the logs.

Followed the steps, held my breath but still it just kept taking me through the setup to show my friends libraries but not mine. Then came across a post suggesting it could be an account issue. Unlinked my Google account and signed out everywhere. Signed back in and there was my Plex server.

Thanks for the support, wouldn’t have got there otherwise.
