I recently (1 week) got this amazing NAS. but i can not remote access plex with out using the relay option.
Ive tried port forwarding on both router and nas, enable various https options on the nas (there wasnt many), im resorting to trying to create a ssl certificate but its proving difficult and i want to cry.
is it the pms firmmare at fault here? is there something on the nas i need to accept secure connections?
You don’t need a certificate. Plex provides what’s needed.
The modem/router (there should be only one – the ISP one) will provide the port forwarding
Confirm please - in the Plex/Web browser
– Settings - Server - Remote Access
– Everything set to Automagic
Check the Synology firewall .
– If it’s enabled, Manually create a rule to Open TCP port 32400
– Most of us run with it off because we’re already protected by the modem/router’s firewall.
If this still doesn’t allow the Remote Access to turn green (check mark),
– Restart Plex
– Wait 2 minutes
– Download the logs (settings - server - troubleshooting - download logs)
– Attach the ZIP file here so I can look at it.
in remote access in PMS it set to automatic (not selected manually specify port) I haver also removed any port filtering/forwarding rules off the router)
firewall on the router (stock from ISP) is enabled with ip flood detection enabled only.

With respect to DSM’s desktop port 5001, I cannot help you there. DSM desktop security changed a lot with DSM 7. Synology has become very strict with the port.
Only you should be accessing the port from your web browser for the purpose of administering DSM.
You should not be using it to open Plex. Plex’s apps can open your server by themselves through Remote Access.
Regarding the LG.
If the TV falls into one on this list then it’s a known failure on the TV’s part
There is a way to allow his TV to work (unsecure) while keeping other devices secure.
If his IP rarely or never changes (most ISPs don’t change IP addresses unless your modem/router changes) you can add the IP address
If it does change frequently, have him set up a DDNS on a computer which updates his local IP.
In your server settings,
Settings - Server - Network - Show Advanced,
List of IPs/Networks allowed to connect without auth.
ok he does have an older one, about 2 years old. so this maybe a consideration for his connection. adding the IP for him will be ok. but I can’t and don’t want to add everyones ip manually
also what what about iOS. that still supports secure connections, so why can’t we get a secure remote connection from my my PMS on the NAS?
it isn’t isolated to one type of device. even via web browsers remotely, I can not get a remote connection with out using the relay.
when you say you couldn’t see any remote connections, do you mean you could see anyone trying to connect remotely?
regardless of the tv issue, I still got a remote connection to any device. not even port forwarding works, which always usually does when I have this issue in the past does!
I’m starting to think this nas was not the best purchase for Plex
I tried this and if if I change disable or required, I loss connection to the sever remotely all together.
iOS is up to date.
you have to understand that I recently had my sever, in the uk on a windows machine with none of these issues up and and till last week. connected. I now migrated to The Netherlands and since upgrading to this has I’m running in to problems.
ive tried installing pms only mack book and coming into the same problems.
