I just purchased a Synology Diskstation 218+ because I ran out of storage on my PC. I mapped a shared folder to the W drive and named it Movies. I can see my movie files in the folder both locally and online through my shared folder. When I connect to Plex through my NAS and browse for folders to scan for movies the “W Drive Movies” does not show up. All that comes up is “plex”, “/”, “volume 1”, and “config”. Can someone help?
If you’ve created a "Movies’ share on your Synology (which is your W:
drive), through plex, you will find it as /volume1/movies
.
Click on /volume1
in the left pane, scroll the right pane up to the top and see movies
If, when you click movies
, you don’t see your movies show in the right pane, this means plex
doesn’t have permission to read them yet.
To give Plex permission, go to Control Panel - Shared Folders - Movies - Permissions (tab) and add user Plex
.
In event I misunderstood how you wish to access from Windows,
You will want to map W:\
to ``\synology\movies` (hope i write this correctly… I’m a linux guy)

Thank you so much it worked! Now my next task is to find out the fastest way to transfer my movies from my PC to that drive. Doing it over Wifi is taking way to long. I have no ethernet on my laptop so would I just use USB? or get one of those USB Ethernet adapters?
Synology should have a USB port in the back you plug the drive in to.
File Station will show you the drive. From there, right click and ‘copy to’

Do I have to connect a drive or can I connect a usb straight from my laptop to the NAS?
You can’t connect Source -> Source. It must always be Source -> Device. (the nature of the USB HCI - Host Controller Interface). Both laptop and Synology NAS are Host controllers.
hard wired eithernet (gigabit) will allow you to push at about 65 MB/sec (typical) if you have that option

I’ve ordered a Gigabit USB Ethernet adapter to be able to plug ethernet to my laptop would that work?
and thank you all for the help i appreciate it!
