I have a Synology DS918+ (running DSM 7 beta) which I have run plex on for a few years with no issue. Anyway, I installed a new hard drive yesterday hoping to extend the storage pool, however this was not possible (another story). So I created a second storage pool and set up a new volume on there. This worked fine, I then copied my movies across and navigated to the new volume in plex. Plex can see the new volume, and the movies folder, however when you click into the folder it cannot see the various movie folders it holds, its empty.
I assume I must be having some kind of permission problem, but I can’t see what. The files are defintely there, I can see them in filestation, so I am not trying to look in an empty folder. The user and admin have read/write permission to the new volume.
I wanted to backup the movie volume to my main PC, so I have enabled it in the Drive admin console. The folders copied over night.
The only descrepency I can see, the new movies are showing up as a team folder rather than mydrive.
I assume I must have a permission issue somewhere but I am not sure where else to check. Can anyone advise?
I am affraid I have fallen into the trap of jabbing at things, without really knowing what they do, and right now the NAS is reporting it is ‘moving’ the shared folder! I didnt think I had asked it to! And, I don’t know where its moving it to. I can see the size of the volume going up, but I can’t check as the volume is no longer showing in File Station.
Oh well, I will wait to see the outcome, its backed up, so I can always start again!
I thought I had! Where should I have set it? I will check.
This would explain why I could see the ‘shared’ movies folder!
I can’t see where the NAS is moving the movies folder, from ‘shared’ to someone where else. Its on the new volume, but I can’t see anything (folders/files/something) in filestations or Synology Drive. I guess I just have to wait for it??
I had this setup, plex was working prior to me trying to move my movies from one storage pool to another.
I didnt have all of this, PMS had read/write but not custom.
Another question comes to mind.
Can I point plex to a folder which is on a seperate volume? E.g. PMS is installed on one volume, linking to music, tv etc but my movies are on a seperate volume.
Yes, they are set up as described. Thanks. Also, thanks for verifying I can point plex at any share. I will wait now to see what the NAS has done!! And then try again.
