Your suspicion here was correct.
You were expecting it to complain / ask for permissions to the Plex shared folder but didn’t get that.
RED FLAG ![]()
The permissions on the Plex share (not the PlexMediaServer share – which is controlled by DSM) were so locked down (did you play with those permissions at some point?? Hmmmmm) the installer couldn’t find it.
The installer will create a new server when it can’t see a “Plex” shared folder.
(Which is what you have here)
To recover from this:
- Uninstall the existing DSM 7 package with ERASE option
- Using this How-To, Grant permission for System Internal User
PlexMediaServerto have Full Control of all files and folders in thePlexshared folder. - When this completes (it will take more/less time depending on how much media you have indexed in Plex), you can proceed
- After it completes, Install the DSM 7 SPK file again. It will detect the contents of the Plex shared folder and begin migrating it to DSM 7.
– DO NOT INTERRUPT IT
– DO NOT NAVIGATE AWAY from that page
– When it completes, Double check the popup message at the end for errors.
