Synology - DSM 7.0 Release - Plex Installation (Not Operational) Issues

It is not a Plex setting.

It is the Synology Control Panel.

Login to the Synology NAS. The username must have administrative rights.

You may see Control Panel on the Synology desktop.

If not, select Main Menu in the upper left corner. Then select Control Panel. See the screenshot @ChuckPa posted.

I am migrating from a Synology 713 to a new 224 running DSM 7. I decided I wanted to restructure my media libraries and reinstall plex from scratch. I was able to install plex on my 224 and setup a media server, but there’s no PlexMediaServer visible to which I can grant user access to my files. I have unistalling and reinstalling Plex on the 224, but no user is visible. Please advise.

  1. Plex must be installed first

  2. Next

@ChuckPa i don’t know if this the right section but since PlexMediaServer-1.40.3.8555-fef15d30c-x86_64_DSM7.spk tonemapping got broke (basic hw transcoding works fine). I rolled back to the PlexMediaServer-1.40.2.8395-c67dce28e-x86_64_DSM7.spk and everything is fine.

Last version 1.40.4.8598 still has the bug.

Synology NAS Apollolake DSM 7 - plex pass

Can you get me DEBUG server logs for the failing ApolloLake which capture this?

We tested ApolloLake for this too. I hate to think we missed something.

If you see this other thread they say the same thing

https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/1deywmi/new_public_pms_version_available_14038555fef15d30c/

Let’s continue the Tone Mapping problem in the thread.

For reference, I reinstalled and ran my test again.

I have HW transcode and tone mapping on GeminiLake (J4125) CPU.

It’s not the CPU.

Hello, I am trying to run Plex Media Server from my new DS923+ unit on DSM 7.2.1 version. I installed the file from the Plex download website - Intel/AMD 64-bit. Not sure if this is the right file. I gave permission to the folders with the media files. When I open my Plex Media Server, I get an error “Not authorized”. I can sign in to Plex from my MacBook. What am I missing? Please help.

Just reclaim it using the installer.

Thank you ChuckPa. I am now able to open Plex Media Server from my NAS.

Hello,
I’m having trouble with setting language options for my servers.

I have two NAS servers with the latest versions of Plex (DSM 7, Plex version 1.41.0.8994 on both servers).

I have both servers added to one Plex account.

If I change the language settings on server 1, they also change on server 2.

For example:
On server 1, I want to have audio language set to english with polish subtitles (with foreign audio), but on the second server, I want to have audio language set to polish with polish subtitles (with foreign audio).
Currently this is not possible…

You may also consider add / move language settings to individual user accounts settings.
My parents like to watch films with a polish audio, but we watch films in their original language, with polish or english subtitles.

Plex DocumentationAccount InformationAccount Audio/Subtitle Language Settings

I see what you mean about Settings → Server_Name → Language changing for all servers on an account.

However, you should be able to set audio and subtitle preferences on a per-account basis.

Using Plex Web, go to account settings: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account

The scroll down to Audio & Subtitle Settings.

@FordGuy61 , Thanks for your help. Local settings per account works fine

Changing language settings for multiple servers separately is no longer that important to me

Just got around to doing the upgrade. DS920+ (Intel).
I installed it following the instructions here. It went all the way through without asking for me to give access to the PlexMediaServer share to PlexMediaServer, which was a bit of a surprise. Got to the end, then told me to give access to the various media shares, so I did that.
Then I started it, and it gave me the standard wizard for a new server. So I clicked Next, thinking that I could see what it was going to do, and it would walk me through the migration. Which I’m now pretty sure was a mistake, as the current name of the Synology and the existing name of the Plex server are currently different. So instead it created a new server, with a new name, and doesn’t have access to the old server at all.

I’ve now given it access to the old Plex share, and I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it’s still not migrated the libraries across.

What do I need to do to back things out entirely and get my libraries back?

Your suspicion here was correct.

You were expecting it to complain / ask for permissions to the Plex shared folder but didn’t get that.

RED FLAG

The permissions on the Plex share (not the PlexMediaServer share – which is controlled by DSM) were so locked down (did you play with those permissions at some point?? Hmmmmm) the installer couldn’t find it.

The installer will create a new server when it can’t see a “Plex” shared folder.
(Which is what you have here)

To recover from this:

  1. Uninstall the existing DSM 7 package with ERASE option
  2. Using this How-To, Grant permission for System Internal User PlexMediaServer to have Full Control of all files and folders in the Plex shared folder.
  3. When this completes (it will take more/less time depending on how much media you have indexed in Plex), you can proceed
  4. After it completes, Install the DSM 7 SPK file again. It will detect the contents of the Plex shared folder and begin migrating it to DSM 7.
    – DO NOT INTERRUPT IT
    – DO NOT NAVIGATE AWAY from that page
    – When it completes, Double check the popup message at the end for errors.

Thank you, that worked perfectly!

The one thing that I had to do differently was to run “Convert to Windows ACL” on the original Plex share, because before that it didn’t have “Custom” as an option for access, only Read and Write.

AH! Windows ACL is only applicable to all those DSM 5-originated volumes.

You’ve been at this a while, eh?

(DSM 6 upgrade did not change the volume ACLs to give us “Custom” as it should have. :frowning: )

Neither did DSM 7 upgrade!

And yeah, when I switched to my current Synology I moved my disks over to it. I’m sure I’ll still be operating my NAS of Theseus for a long time to come!

Thank you for the help.

Hello,
I’m writing to you after updating my Synology 420+ Nas Server this morning to version DSM 7.2.2-72806.
Since then, the Plex Media Server has been incompatible, as I’m told in the package center. I’d like to know if anyone has the same problem and what to do about it.
Will there be an update to fix this?
I’m completely stuck without access to my library.
I wish you a pleasant evening and thank you in advance for your answers.

@pendolsaa

Please confirm for me:

  1. You’ve been running DSM 7.x (up through 7.2.1) successfully until now.
  2. The moment you upgraded to 7.2.2 , everything stopped.

The solution is simple.

  1. Synology changed how packages work.
  2. We had to create two DSM 7 packages (for now)

For you:

  1. Uninstall the Plex package with the KEEP (First Radio Button) option
  2. Go to Plex.tv/Downloads
  3. Instead of selecting (DSM 7), Scroll down one more to (DSM 7.2.2+)
  4. Download the package for your machine
  5. Manual Install that new SPK – Normal Installation.

PMS will pick up where it left off.
