Synology DSM 7.2.2 , Plex Server suddlenly incompatible?

Is this Synology update going to break anything on the Plex side? Notes say update is non-downgradeable and that the processing of media files using HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264), and VC-1 codecs will be transitioned from the server to end devices.

DSM 7.2.2 is a breaking change to the installer.

Synology changed how the menu pages work.

You cannot downgrade from 7.2.2 once upgraded (as is the norm)

Everything else PMS will work normally.

There’s wording on the download page that isn’t necessarily true.

ā€œNote: Requires DSM 7.2.2 minimum to install.ā€

I’m using 1.41.0.8911 beta with 7.2.1. It should say something more like ā€œThis is required for DSM 7.2.2+ā€.

Hello,
Thanks for the Information.

Is there a special way for Upgrading?
Or just update Synology to 7.2.2 and then install PMS over?

Maybe add the upgrade path to the pinned Article.

Thanks!

After you upgrade to DSM 7.2.2, you then use the ā€œDSM 7.2.2+ā€ selector moving forward

Nothing will be reinstalled from scratch. It will be a normal upgrade.

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8921
Synology DS218+ : DSM 7.2.1-69057 U5

Hello everyone,

I would like to upgrade my NAS to DSM 7.2.2+.
I understand that I must also update Plex to version 1.41.0+.

I’ve downloaded the new official version that’s just been released (1.41.0.8992) and I have a simple question:

As I haven’t yet upgraded to DSM 7.2.2+, what do you think is the best order in which to do this?

DSM 7.2.2 then Plex 1.41.x (as explained above for the BETA) or vice versa?

Sorry if my question seems stupid

Not a stupid question at all.

If you want to wait a bit – that’s fine. You’re the one managing it.

Friends are telling me it’s perfectly safe to upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04.1.
I’m not convinced (24.04.1 was just released and I know 24.04.0 was buggy as heck). I’m likely waiting until 24.04.2. … My server runs on Ubuntu 22.04.5

Thanks ChuckPa for your quick reply

But I don’t think I use my NAS as much as you do (only Plex and 1-2 additional simple applications).

So if I want to do everything now, what would you advise me to update first ideally? Plex or DSM? Or does it really matter?

Sorry for butting in… Is it really mandatory to update (older, like real old) Plex MS for DSM 7.2.2? (Even thought it runs perfect on 7.2.1)

If you’re running DSM 7.2.2 or newer on your Syno, you need to use the corresponding version of PMS for that release.

but why? It doesn’t make sense. Its not like a majors os update.

Apparently they made some significant changes, despite only updating from 7.2.1 to 7.2.2.

From earlier in the thread.

What does that even mean? Why does it matter if an installer is different when you’re not installing an existing app?

@PunkleJones

The internal format of the packages for DSM 7.2.2 and above is now different than it was from DSM 7.0 → 7.2.1

The SPK’s are not compatible.

Hi everyone
im’m trying to install plex Server on my new Synology DS224+ (DSM 7.2.2-72806).
It’s very fustrating: if I use normal installation i see my local server but i can’t claim it; if I use token installation i can’t see local server in the menu, Plex think to be a client.
I tried everythin, also different version and different account but i reach the same point…
Any ideas?

Stop Plex

Using FileStation, make a ZIP file of PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Logs (the entire Logs folder)

Download it and attach it here.

logs.zip attached
Logs.zip (268.0 KB)

Thank you.

Found the problem:

Check your DNS resolver IP and your Gateway IP.

This is a simple case of DSM dropped/lost part of your network configuration in the upgrade
