RUT ROH! Your “update” was an UPGRADE from DSM 6 to DSM 7
That’s a bag of hurt.
Because of current limits in what Synology allows us to do, you have to do the bulk of the permissions work.
I’ll get you started then you can CAREFULLY follow the FAQ I link below (contains screenshots)
- Uninstall the Plex DSM 7 app with ERASE (the red option)
- Go to Control Panel - Shared Folder - EDIT the Plex shared folder
- Permission tab
- Change ‘Local User’ to ‘System Internal User’ (it’s a dropdown)
- For PlexMediaServer, click ‘Custom’
- Give it all Admin, Read, and Write permission
- OK that
- Return to the previous page, Click “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”
- Now click SAVE
- This will take time.
When it’s done, Now install the Plex DSM 7 app.
It will:
-
Confirm you got all the permissions set correctly. It will error if not and tell you what to do (be mindful of the popup at the end)
-
If everything is OK, it will sit at “Installing”.
– It will sit here while it takes every Plex file (all your metadata) from the DSM 6 installation and moves it to the DSM 7 storage (new shared folder ‘PlexMediaServer’)
– Don’t migrate away from the screen else you’ll miss any error messages -
In a separate tab, open the syno desktop again.
– Look in the Plex shared folder ‘Migration.log’
– As the installation advances, it will write its progress there.
Here’s the how-to. LOOK at “Scenario 2”
