Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

@tisler

There you have it… it never migrated.

Let’s make it migrate :smiling_imp:

  1. Uninstall the package – select the ERASE option (this removes the rogue DSM 7 install but leaves “Plex” sacred)

  2. Install the package again.

  3. The installer will check and, if lucky Error message popup (telling you to start granting permissions for the Plex share)

  4. If it gives you another “Installation Successful” -AND- still has all your metadata in the Plex share… then you MUST have hit “Repair” along the way or installed 1.21.0.3744 :wink:

  5. If it still didn’t migrate (VERIFY the Plex share contents), Uninstall + erase again

  6. Now we are left with Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server and NO extra server instances anywhere else on the machine.

  7. Install again and now expect it to be ‘Installing’ for some time once we get all the permissions set as it directs

  1. Uninstalled with erase option. => Done
  2. Installed the Plex package (1.25.2.5319-7000) again, selected „Normal installation“ and selected „Run after installation“
    => Same behaviour as before: After some seconds it reported „Success“
    Old Plex folder ist still there…

Shall I retry again?

Yes.

there can be 2 rogue instances on DSM because of “user deviations” :rofl:

There might be several.

ALSO, if the Plex shared folder is named Plex (with a space or weird character DSM ignores) it will be missed. This will require manual inspection.

Ok, tried once more.
Uninstalled the package with Erase option.
Gave Full Permission to Plex folder for user PlexMediaServer
Tried to install the package again.
It ran for quite some time and then it just said that something went wrong and I should login to DSM again.
When I do that then I see that the Plex package status is „Installing…“.

Shall I just wait?
BTW: Couldn‘t spot a migration log file inside Plex folder.

That’s DSM barking for NO GOOD REASON. (Known DSM bug)

Go to Resource Monitor… “PlexMediaServer” is still migrating.

Also look at Plex/Migration.log … It will show you progress. (Refresh FileStation… it takes 2-3 minutes to appear initially – again DSM bug)

Do not restart DSM

Finally I have a migration.log containing the following so far:
Plex Media Server migration to DSM 7 started: Tue Jan 4 00:35:54 CET 2022
=== Tue Jan 4 00:35:54 CET 2022 === Start: Change ownership

Where exactly in the Resource Monitor can I check if PlexMediaServer ist still migrating?

Resource Monitor — Processes (Tasks / Task Manager – depending on region)

Checked Ressource Monitor but cannot spot a „Process Name“ called „PlexMediaServer“.

Plex Package is still „Installing…“.

Migration.log made some progress:
Plex Media Server migration to DSM 7 started: Tue Jan 4 00:35:54 CET 2022
=== Tue Jan 4 00:35:54 CET 2022 === Start: Change ownership
=== Tue Jan 4 01:34:03 CET 2022 === Completed: Change ownership
=== Tue Jan 4 01:34:03 CET 2022 === Start: Convert symbolic links

Seems to take ages :wink:
I leave it like this now an check again in a few hours.

You’ll get there! :slight_smile:

This might take 1-2 days given it has taken 1 hr to change the ownership.
The number of files in there is VERY high.

The record is 2 weeks for 480 GB of metadata :slight_smile:

I am currently using version 1.21.0.3744 on the server. Version 1.25.2.5319 if I put this version the server opens and closes on its own ??? although I had it since the beginning of December without any worries thank you for your help

@Baignoire

Knowing you have 1.21.0.3744;

When you install 1.25.2.5319 –

  1. It will upgrade (automatically) to the new storage structure
    – PlexMediaServer shared folder
    – It will take a bit of time to move your metadata

  2. Nothing else will change

  3. Be patient while it upgrades and all will be fine.

I had already installed the new version of 8.12.2021 at the beginning of December

but yesterday morning the server was off when I wanted to restart it, it closed on its own, so I had to uninstall and then return to version 1.21.0.3744 which it opens without worries

it had stopped so you decided to erase everything and start over with the BETA without even finding out why?

I wanted to relaunch it but impossible it would load then go off again for no apparent reason so I uninstalled and went back to version 1.21

Version 1.21.0.3744 does not recognize / know about the PlexMediaServer shared folder.

If you want to stay on 1.21.0.3744 – Delete the “PlexMediaServer” shared folder.

1.21.0.3744 is beta … it’s no longer supported for that reason.

I would like to put the new version 1.25 back but as soon as I put it it loads then closes

If you will do the following, i will help (I think I already know the problem)

  1. FileStation
  2. PlexMediaServer shared folder - AppData - Plex Media Server
  3. Right-click Logs → Compress to Logs.zip
  4. Download the ZIP
  5. Attach here please

Logs.zip (7.1 MB)
thanks for the help

I see what’s happening.

It wanted to allocate 2,576 bytes of memory and failed. This is such a small amount I ask what else might have been happening.

  1. Which model is this? DS-1815+ ?
  2. How much memory is installed ?
  3. It looks like you have a large amount of music and Plex is having a hard time coping with it on this machine configuration. (100 should require, at most, 10ms on this CPU)
Jan 03, 2022 06:18:15.816 [0x7fb94745ab38] DEBUG - Matching '100 Greatest Modern Pop Songs' (ID 100635) with agent tv.plex.agents.music

  1. How much music do you have ?

I have 1.24.2.4973 which I can and will give you when we are confident of success
