Once you have your LAN (and hosts) in the address ranges per the RFC, it will work instantly (after restarting everything)

I rebooted the NAS and moved the ethernet to the second connector so there are now a fresh set of logs along with some older ones (sent previously). Maybe you can find something in the recent reboot log that can help me get past this issue.

I’m running DSM 7.0.1-42218 and it tells me my plex is offline. Some days plex works and other days it does not, I did upgrade to DSM 7 and update plex with no issues but I could never get plex to be stable. It’s starting to annoy me. Ugh I just want it to work. I even tried to reinstall plex.

@Trilback

I need a few more details please and have a few questions :slight_smile:

  1. Before upgrading to DSM 7, did you uninstall the Plex app?
  2. If not, did you click the “Repair” button that Package Center offered ?
  3. Lastly, which version of PMS do you currently have installed ?
    – from Package Center or from Plex.tv/downloads ?

@corpserv_gmail_com

You’re using the QuickConnect.to link (URL) from package center.

Get through the setup that way.

DSM 7 / Package Center / Syno External Access-QuickConnect is full of problems because it forces you to ‘loop around’ (leave your home LAN) go out to Synology , then come back in from outside… which is just plain silly.

If you fidgit with it, not applying your FQDN to the host, you’ll get it to resolve as it should

This is 100% a DSM problem

Synology has stopped responding to our communication so I can’t bring this up with our support contact.

since this morning without changing anything plex starts then stops without warning I don’t understand a thing

I have not been successful- this makes it sound like it’s a simple setup. I have given permission and created my shared folders but have not gotten anywhere.

@mbbc1

Have you seen the Synology FAQ ?

First time DSM setup is here (which works for DSM 6 & 7 )

I finally got in but when I go to your media and click on the + it just wants me to download the media server. The server is running and all permissions have been granted.

Show me please?

When you click on the + , next to the Server name, it is talking to the server and opening the dialog to create a new library section.

It won’t do this if it can’t see a server to talk to.

Do you have a Javascript or popup blocker ?

I’m using the same physical computer I previously used w/ my PMS. That is closed out though. I’m using chrome.

@mbbc1

Thank you for the video. It tells me a great deal about what’s happening.

  1. Please STOP what you’re doing with the PlexMediaServer shared folder.
    – It is fully managed by DSM 7 with permissions set as Read/Write by DSM 7.
    – It is not for ANY user to touch unless so directed.
    – Its sole purpose is for Plex internal metadata

  2. The reason you’re having all this trouble setting it up is because of your LAN addressing. It’s not RFC-1918 compliant.

– You are using 192.9.27.33

– Are you setting up a Plex server inside the Oracle corporate LAN?

RFC-1918 Private Network address blocks are:

  • 192.168.x.x
  • 172.16.x.x → 172.31.x.x
  • 10.x.x.x

I don’t know what Oracle Corporate lan is, so I would guess the answer is no. I’ve always had my network setup w/ Ip start 192.9 even when the server was directly on my computer and it worked for me. MY Nas IP is 192.9.27.23 I’m not sure where the 33 came from

  1. Sorry for the .33 , typo on my part.

  2. Plex never allowed 192.9.27.x to be accepted as home LAN address space. It violates the IETC spec for networking.

While you might have always had your LAN this way. If you want to run Plex, you unfortunately need to change it to be compliant with the specification.

I do see you’re a Plex Pass holder since 2015 so I wouldn’t think this requirement would be anything new to you.

Just upgraded my Plex installation from DSM 6.2 to DSM 7.
All went fine (nor errors) but I lost all my settings (Media Libraries, Playlists, …)
Not a too big deal since the only data I lost are my music playlists.
I followed the upgrade guide and unistalled the Plex Package before the upgrade.
Then I downloaded the latest Plex Package directly from Plex and installed it.
Courious to know what I did wrong.

Thanks for your help. I changed it and it fixed it. but again I’ve never had problems before now w/ the 192.9.27 IP I’ve had my IP address that way for quite some time.

Whatever you do, don’t panic. As long as you don’t delete anything, it can all be recovered.

would you please look in the Plex shared folder to see if you still have Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server ?

as for losing the playlists, where was the music stored?
Was it in the Plex shared folder somewhere ?

Yes, everything within the original Plex directory is still there.
I assume the database wasn‘t migrated.
My music is stored in a dedicated shared folder named „music“.
