@ChuckPa any Idea? Have you seen my logs?

@theriffer666_gmail_com

I’m sorry, I must not have clicked the reply button. My apologies.

I would like you to:

  1. Uninstall PMS (use the KEEP option which is the default action)
  2. After uninstall, Restart DSM
  3. Now download fresh and install again - Normal installation.

If this does not succeed, we will get into DSM and look at the internal logs.

I did your steps with reboot of NAS.
I tried to install PMS nex with this file PlexMediaServer-1.25.5.5492-12f6b8c83-x86_64_DSM7.spk but no luck. It’s also spinning forever.

Let’s get a look at the DSM installer logs.

  1. Create a Schedule Task - User script
  2. It runs as root user
  3. It emails you the output
  4. It executes:
cat /var/log/synopkg.log
  1. Manually run the task once.

  2. Please share the output you get in your email from the task.

I suspect something silly has happened in the underlying DSM.

I’ve seen problems when the DSM root partition fills up.

How comfortable are you with Linux command line?

If not, would you please modify your existing Scheduled Task and change it to:

df -h
ls -lah /

then share that output ?

df -h should look something like:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/md0 2.3G 1.1G 1.2G 49% /
devtmpfs 476M 0 476M 0% /dev
tmpfs 495M 40K 494M 1% /dev/shm

That’s clean.

Is it ok for me to contact you in PM to make arrangements for me to gain access to the machine?

of course

Given the age of this thread, the various updates of DSM 7 and Plex is there a current definitive method to update to DSM 7 and Plex “headache free”?

Yep.

Read the entire thread and the posts below.

Two methods are presented.

Hi there,
I’m at a lost of what I need to do next or what I didn’t do in the first place.

So I have a ds420+, I have manually installed the most recent plex updates, and have given the plex shared file the needed access, I proceed to open plex and I can only ever get the web version.

So I have uninstalled and deleted plex and shared file. a few time. and have used a claim token for the server to be connected to my account, I even opened a new email to see if I would get the same results, which I do. Have since reclaimed the original email with plex pass.

My plex server use to be an old pc, but have upgraded to this synology, and everything did work, but now its not after switching.

Have taken the account to as close to default as I can as far as I know.

Thanks in advance!

When you install Plex on a Synology,

  1. It runs as a service on DSM.
  2. If you are on the same RFC-1918 compliant LAN subnet as it
    – (192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x → 172.31.x.x, or 10.x.x.x )
  3. Using your browser, you then open it directly by the Synology’s address
    – http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web
  4. You’ll be greeted by a `Got It’ message
  5. Next, it’ll jump right into the Setup wizard.

How far did you get in this process ?

Are you using DSM 6 or DSM 7 ?

Currently I’m using quickconnect.
would it be better to turn that off?

I’m not that great with networking.
so the subnet stuff I’m not 100 percent sure what is needed for that.
I did try to do the ip.address: 32400/web. and it brings up the same page as it does with the quickconnect.

steps 4 and 5, haven’t yet
and am using dsm7

Once you have Plex setup completed, you can use it to open the session.

Just use the IP directly for the first part of setup.

Anything with a domain name showing will prevent PMS from accepting you as local and as the admin (it’s strict)

Hey
Don’t mean to be a side stitch. but switch to ip address only, and unfortunately its going to the same page, not the server side.

@jmsoren5

Let me ask a few questions to figure out what’s happening.

First, basic networking:

  1. What’s the LAN IP of your syno?
  2. What’s the IP address of the computer you’re trying to set it up with?

Lastly,

  1. Have you used the “Plex Claim Token” option in the installer at all?
  2. Is this a fresh install (no DSM 6 upgrade) ?
  3. Have you ever used the Package Center version of Plex (version 1.21.0.3744) ?

Yes Ive used the claim token a few times. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled Plex probably a dozen times in different ways.

When I first installed Plex it was the old version. And it worked for a little bit. The server was still assigned to the old PC, and I guess I was adding the folders for Synology. And then when I deactivated the PC because I was going to be Synology soley, that’s where things went weird. Uninstalled it on Synology and reinstalled, and it was then that I couldn’t get the Synology server to load and it was only the web site.

@jmsoren5

What’re the IP addresses please?

Are you using a domain name / custom certificate anywhere in this?
