So today I opened up my computer to do what you said and its now working. Don’t really understand what needs to happen between the time it stops working and I have to update the software and restarting plex in synology. There seems to be a time delay for the :32400 port to be acknowledged.

Are there certain steps that I should be doing after I update? like restart my computer or the router, or the nas?

these things dont seem to be stated because following the directions as listed do not make it work immediately.

Thanks for your quick reply to the other post.

Engineering made some significant database changes over the past few releases.
Unlike all database changes, most of which take only a few seconds to complete, these past few have been much more substantial.

For some users, it’s taken 15-20 minutes, or even more for their databases to update.

PMS wont open the web server / respond until the DB is available.

If you review the release announcements, do they match what you’re seeing?

Thank you for those logs.

  1. Please turn VERBOSE logging OFF. It’s not needed and makes for too much extra info & difficult to read.

  2. There are multiple internet connection problems.

Hey Chuck, it’s amazing the time and effort you’re taking to guide us. Thank You!

I have a Plex Pass, I’m on DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 5 at the moment, looking to upgrade to 7.0.1-42218 Update 3. I’ve set up the Plex Package in vDSM 6.2.4 with a couple movies and shows just to test how the upgrade to DSM 7 goes before I do it for real and I’ve also read through your instructions (Synology - DSM 7.0 Release - Plex Installation (Not Operational) Issues - #358 by ChuckPa). Couple quick questions I had:

  1. I assume a lot has changed since June, is that instruction set still the most optimal way to handle an upgrade to DSM 7 with regards to Plex?

  2. Assuming I do still have to follow those instructions, Seems to me I need to Uninstall the App, Spellcheck the shared folder, set idle timer and restart DSM BEFORE I upgrade my Synology to DSM 7. Did I get that right?

Edit: Apologies, I just stumbled across Synology FAQ - Questions, Answers, and a few How-To's - #33 by ChuckPa and that answers both my questions. Going to upgrade now and hopefully that goes well :smiley:

Hi, not sure if i’m in the right thread here, apologies if not.

I’ve just got my first NAS, Synology. Installed Plex beta through the package centre and opened Plex where it said i had an update to install. Installed manually through my NAS, all good. Plex web shows the latest version. However it also says there’s a new version to update to when there isn’t, plus i can’t claim my server, just spins then nothing happens. Tried on several different browsers, tried clearing the cache of the browsers, made sure the permissions were read/write in shared folders, nothing works. Can you please help?

Thanks

@ChuckPa will be able to sort
Pretty sure you shouldn’t have installed the beta from the package centre

Aha…so is that the issue. I watched Youtube videos that show them doing the same thing and they had no issues. How would i install Plex on my server without using package centre?

Thanks

You have to download the latest version directly from plex.

Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More
And make sure you download the version correct for your server.

When you have found and downloaded the correct version to your computer you will then need to do a manual install on your synology. This accomplished via Package Centre, there is a button marked ā€œmanual installā€ near the top right

IF the package version is 1.21.0.3744 – This is the DSM 7 beta package.

  1. It’s obsolete
  2. It barely works in DSM 7 final version

Since DSM 7 went final release, 1.24.2.4793 and above are now final form.

  1. Download from plex.tv/downloads
  2. Package Center ->Manual Install
  3. The package will migrate a DSM 6 installation -OR- upgrade the beta package.
    – both of these might take some time to move the data so please be patient. Don’t interrupt it once started

Thanks for the info…I think i’ve sorted it. I unchecked the ā€˜manually configure DNS server’ box on my NAS and it’s now working on version 1.25.6.5577.

Cheers

Hi there thank you for your explanation and helps.

It seems that the plex cannot recognize my NAS and couldn’t find where I did wrong…

any idea may help?

@tarisibaa

Which model NAS do you have?

What have you done so far? (Please be detailed. Include info about which package you attempted to install)

DS220+ DSM 7.0.1-42218 update 2
PMS 1.25.5.5492-7000

Brand new install, upgraded to a Synology NAS basically for the PMS, prior installation was on my Shield. At a loss but every day the PMS stops running and i have to manually Run thr PMS in the DSM package center. Logs say that Plex is manually stopped, but i have not set any function, unless the DSM automatically stops running programs that are idle for too long. Again i am brand new to this Synology NAS.

Now PMS will not Run at all! Get the loading wheel, starting, then when it says started, the switch goes gray to Run, and it says Manually Stopped.

Tried to update and reinstall PMS at the lowest uninstall level:
DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 3
PMS 1.25.5.5492-7000

Again PMS was working fine, other than every day I had to go into DSM and hit Run in Package Center for PMS. I did not follow the upgrade instructions for DSM6 to DSM7, not sure if that mattered, as I did a fresh install of the PMS onto DSM7 and was able to get everything working.

Any help would be GREAT. Wondering how I uninstall PMS for a fresh install or if that is even needed.

HELP!

@ChuckPa

Hello, I’m new. I’ve installed DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 3 on my Synology NAS 220+. I can see my music, but i cann’t hear ist. I always get the message >playback failure<
What’s wrong on my installation?

@AndreFlaemig

Please attempt to play again –

Now download the logs ZIP file (under Troubleshooting)

Attach the ZIP file

@tlef805

Using FileStation, with Plex stopped (which I think it now is),

FileStation → PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server

Right-click ā€œLogsā€ → ā€œCompress to Logs.zipā€

Download that ZIP file and attach here please.

Your database got damaged .

Did you have an abrupt poweroff ?

The remedy here is to use one of the backup databases if you have them (you should).

Using FileStation

  1. PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases

  2. Locate the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db and its backups (date is added to the name)

  3. Rename com.plexapp.plugins.library.db → com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-damaged

  4. Now, using your most recent backup, rename it to be com.plexapp.plugins.library.db

  5. If you see a com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-shm or a -wal file – Delete them.

  6. Restart Plex

  7. If that database is ok,
    a. Scan files – to catch up any media changes
    b. Refresh all metadata – to catch up on any metadata changes (if needed)
