Synology (DSM7) Not Authorized : You do not have access to this server -- New Install

@trumpy81,

Thank you for the quick response. I followed your recommendations. Spoiler, it worked!

I wanted to add some notes if anyone else comes across this post.

  1. I originally installed Plex Server with the instructions in my original post above. It did not work. Troubleshooting began :: I had the issue mentioned in this article regarding DNS: Synology DSM7: Not Authorized. I didn’t know I had a DNS issue until reading that post (and others) while searching through my log file. Note, my Synology was downloading updates and other packages without errors. I assumed it was using DNS and not public IPs, therefore I didn’t think I had a DNS issue. I changed my Synology from DHCP to static both IP and DNS. I had always been accessing Plex via the local IP address and not DNS. – Hindsight, this was a new Synology and I should not have taken shortcuts and properly setup the Synology. I wanted to get right to the Plex install (if I’m being honest).
  2. After receiving the Authorization Error I uninstalled Plex from the Synology, changed the network settings to static. I followed another post that said to choose the option “Erase all of Plex Media Server from the system. (Not Recoverable)”. As mine was a fresh install and not an upgrade, I chose that option.
  3. I did the install exactly how @trumpy81 listed above. However, the Authorization error was the first thing I saw. – During this step, I uninstalled and reinstalled many times trying different solutions I found in other forums. All with no success.
  4. This time, during the uninstall, I chose “Sign out and unclaim this server. Keep all existing files for future re-installation.” Uninstall completed.
  5. I installed Plex again using the downloaded image and not from the Synology ‘package center’.
  6. Followed the steps that @trumpy81 suggested (this was my install process as well).
  7. When the install was complete I browsed out to the IP, it worked!

I think that tells me the token I was passing to Plex might have not been properly synced and not signing out caused the issue. – Just a guess.

Big thanks to @trumpy81 for the quick help.
