Hmm, I have those too (as many people, I mean, my media is in shared folders and all that), so it must really be something with your DSM installation.
Or the locales. The default one is POSIX, that's what I'm sure of.

I have a question as a newbie. I have a synology 411+ nas and the only way i can get the PMS to find new movies/shows in existing libraries is to reboot the NAS. Is that normal, and if I add a new library called ‘Cars’ using the TVshow setup and point it towards the folders on the NAS it doesnt find anything though it shows it is scanning. Am i doing it all wrong? thanks
I'm honestly at a loss here.
What does a "ls -la" on the @eaDir folder return?
Rebooting the NAS?!
Okay, so a few questions:
- what version? The official one, or the BETA_2 I made? (it can explain the "doesn't find anything if it's the official; UTF-8 and all that)
- why the reboot (and no, it's definitely not normal)? The "Refresh" button at the bottom-right doesn't work? Scanning can take a few minutes, usually.
- what is in "Cars"? The TV shows setup is looking for files with a "xxxx - S01E01.mkv" format, as a TV show.
Maybe you want the "Local Files" scanner in the options (when you create the "Cars" library)
Hi the version i have is 9.2.8
why the reboot?, well because the media manager seems to lockdown eg if i start the refresh button manually [ as no files were added to folder] then it can just goes round and round for days no matter if i try to refresh it or stop it by clicking on it again and again. So the only way to get a response is to reboot the 411+.
in 'cars' are some fifth gear and top gear folders that i have tried to clean up into seasons, some are marked as 'top gear,season16,top gear - [10x7] - 28.09.11.avi '
and some are just 'top gear - [09x7].avi' lazy i know but not sure of what format to use on these files that all i want to do is for plex to find them, no other info about them is necesary. just to be able to use plex to find them. I have had success calling some animated [family guy] folders 'toons' and it scans and finds them etc thank you for the reply as i know it is only a small thing but glad for the ability to ask more knowledgeable people.
Not sure what you mean by 'local scanner' i have looked at the 'preferences' and 'edit section, advanced' but no local scanner option?
What does a "ls -la" on the @eaDir folder return? I have no idea what this means, can you give me more info thanks of what i am looking for. i have clicked on that when ading folders but nothing there, if that makes sense? thanks again.
First time scanning everything went fine. Plex finds every episode of the tv show. Then after some time 1 or 2 episodes are lost. I tried a deep scan, shift the season file to another place, scan pmm, delete the trash and shift the season file back. No success.
I don´t know what to do. If the pmm is on my mac, there is no problem.
I just found out about this package 5 days ago, the same day I was going abroad for the weekend. So i I quickly installed it, added my movie and tv show folders I use for Xbmc, forwarded the port on my router and left. Hoping I would be able to get it up and running when I reached my destination.
When I got there I connected my Ipad to a wifi that only had a 3Mbit connection, installed the Plex client, was able to instantly connect to my server. It had loaded up all the boxart and and everything. I started up a 720p .mkv tv-show and IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY! After maybe 5sek buffering.
Tried a 1080P movie, it buffered for maybe 10sec and then ran for about 1min before doing the same thing again. If left buffering for a while it worked a lot better. How much does plex transcode if left paused?
I never went on to watch an entire movie, but left the Ipad with someone when I was away an evening and they went on to watch an entire movie and said that the buffering wasn’t to bad.
So i came here to leave a big THANK YOU to the developers!
was actually looking for info regarding the possibility of more effective 1080P transcoding in the future, but now realise that what I was able to get is pretty impressive after reading that 1080P would be impossible and 720p unwatchable from a NAS. So I felt I had to share theese ressults!
The "ls -la" stuff was for matten; it's command-line stuff, and more for his specific case.
Okay, so 0.9.2.8.
One big issue causing a non-refresh in this version is special characters.
Those are all the characters which are not letters/numbers/basic punctuation. For example, a file called "Supérieur.mkv" will make the scanner fail because of the "é".
For your filenames, I think you need to check the Plex wiki: http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_PMS_Naming_Guide
Maybe the dates are causing an issue. Anyway, you'll get more help in the other parts of the forum; I can only help with installation stuff.
jimpanse: the missing episodes could be what I called the "stacking" bug.
But since you moved the folder away and back, not sure if it is. I can only advise to wait the newest official package (Elan and Tobias are currently setting it up for automatic builds, so next releases will be at the same time than the others).
Jeradin: I'd vote against it. Except on thousands-of-dollars Synologys, transcoding is limited to SD content, maybe 720p.
Buuuuut then kimparrot is going against me. :D I'm curious about his settings...
kimparrot: even weirder is that it worked flawlessly, since there was a transcoding issue in 0.9.2.8. :)
The new version has a specific folder for transcoding.

Actually, that's the very good news of this version: Synology will now be auto-built!
Which means next PMS upgrades will be available for Synology at the same time.
However, maybe wait a bit, since local.bin had some issues: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/34065-0952-for-linux-distros-working
In any case, you can always downgrade to the beta 2 package.
