Synology package thread

Hello,

I have a problem with plex installed on a Syno DS411+II.

It works good for a few week, and I have now a login/password request :

My only problem, is that I don't know this password and haven't set one.
I tried without success the username/password from Synology plex user, myplex user and Synology admin user.

Could you give me the username/password to use?

Thank you for your support ;)

I have the same problem.
I tried to change Plex user password, but this didn't help me to log on.

Thanks very much for all the hard work behind this. It has been great. I had two small things I was wondering if anyone had a solution for:

The first one is that when I haven’t used Plex for a few days, my clients do not see the Plex server running on my DS 1511+. The only way to get them to see it is to sign into my NAS, stop the Plex service, and then run it again. From the Finder in my Mac I can access my diskstation, and I can navigate to the plex directory (where the server components are stored) but it just won’t be detectable by my client unless I do this. After that it works fine. Anyway around this? Is it Synology or the Plex media server doing this?

Second small thing: is it possible to use the DVD sort plugin with a Linux based server like my diskstation? I used it before when I was using a Mac server and it was awesome.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I have several questions for the community, but first a little background.

I’ve installed the Plex Server Package on my Synology DS1511+ and it’s sort of working, but not terribly well. I was able to add a media folder to it that contained 700 movies.

Separately I installed Plex clients on my Apple TV2, MacBook and my iMac.

Here are my experiences.

Apple TV2 - My ATV2 crashes and reloads the main screen so often that I consider it now unusable. I installed through ATVFlash and I can see that it’s the newest version of Plex but I find that it restarts after I stop a movie from playing and before I choose another movie and sometimes just from scrolling through the movie list. The guys at ATVFlash say it’s the Plex client that is the problem.

MacBook - This client connects wirelessly and also crashes quite often. Could the crashing have to do with the size of the movie collection? It’s a new router so I really shouldn’t be experiencing this.

iMac - This client crashes less frequently because it’s a wired connection. I really don’t want to watch movies from here though.

iPAD - I was going to install this but since I haven’t had any success with the other clients I thought I would hold off for now, it’s only $4.99 but I hate to waste the money if it’s not going to work well.

My Questions:

  1. Is the Plex package for Synology causing my issues here?

Could someone give me a state of the Synology Package?

Does anyone really have this working well and should I spend the time trying to figure it out or is this something that will eventually work but it’s a work in progress at this point?

If the Plex Mac Server is a 7 out of 10 where is the state of the Synology package?

I’m not complaining obviously, I just want to get an understanding of how well polished this thing is so that I know if my problems are on the server or client side.

I guess I’ll probably install the Mac Server and test against that.

    Yours,

    Rob

Is there no chance to make it work on 211J?

The package wont installt, keeps in saying " please wait"

Does anyone also face the problem that the Synology will not auto-shutdown if Plex is runnning? It keeps crashing every time it should shut down so I have to manually switch off the maschine by pressing the ON/OFF button for 8-10 sec.

Anyone figured this out?

I have the same problem...

for me it has worked flawless with my 1511+ and 4.0 beta. it worked also before. and i normally use shutdown and startup schedule.

i both use plex with tvshows and movies. and that works as it should. also when it comes to auto scraping new added movies

I have the same behavior after I secured a website with .htaccess/htpasswd coming from outside (domain:32400/manage) to Plex. Internally (local IP:32400/manage) its all good. Haven't looked in the solution further since VPN makes it work again and also going through MyPlex.

Maybe a pointer for you guys...

Yesterday I installed my brand new DS411+II and noticed the login will only show when connecting to the GUI using a remote IP. If I connect using the internal LAN address I'm always allowed access. Maybe this is some protection against access from the internet, without an option to change the password yet?

My first test with an iPad/iPhone client on wifi with my new server are not very promising. With bandwidth set to 4Mbps I got many freezes and sort of crashes of the video player to the library screens. The NAS is using 80% CPU for some time which seems ok while encoding, but then drops to 1% long before the client freezes/crashes.
Anyone had similar experience? I'll check my logs and do some more tests this weekend.

Following up on my post above, I found a bug/configuration issue related to subtitle fonts in at least the Synology package.

Reading threads on other NAS’es it seems this issue also exists on other platforms.

I found a fix, check out the Lighthouse ticket if you’re interested:

https://plexapp.lighthouseapp.com/projects/14382/tickets/1225-bug-subtitles-on-linux-crashes-pms-transcoding

I got the DS712+ for around 500 (only needed 2 bay, any important stuff i’ll just back up on usb drive). Has anyone with the 712+ upgraded the RAM to 4GB; yet. I haven’t received mine, yet but when i do…that will be the first thing i plan to do. As for transcoding, I just hope apple tv comes out the ATV3 that supports the 1080 or something, soon; ATV seems to be a nice option for the client so planing to keep using ATV, i think 712+ will handle transcoding…(never plan to use the phones and other such devices to watch movies…that’s ridicules)

Has anyone given any thought to making a repository for the synology plex server package so that it can be updated within DSM package manager? There are already several 3rd party repos for synology software, why not a plex one?

I just updated to the ds1511+ and have a 3.5tb library and was wondering the same thing.

Hi everybody,

i am facing weird problem. I cant log to plex, after plex package is instaled and started

synology 712+

fresh installation DSM4.0 beta

i installed please package, and started. after this i cant login. I see just welcome page asking for password. I tryed to modify plex user password, nothing. i went trough files, nothing.

i was going trough forums, and i noticed i am not only 1 who is complaining. And i found really weird information, plex is forcing everybody to use myplex.

so my question - do you also fase same problem with loging? what is initial login/password after login?

if only solution is to use myplex - is it possible to beg plex developers??? I am runing my own NAS, jsut to skip need for public “cloud” service. I am realy not interested in usage any public cloud ( even it is free)

------------------------------------------

|update:

so after digging i found it is not possible to use plex on your NAS without “myPlex”. There was possibility to hack it via token, but seems, this possibility was removed, and token is hidden - i am lazy to dig for it more, and do hacking…

Privacy of my data was main reason i bought synology. I belive it is same for most of synology owners. Therefore this plex is useless for me, because myPlex is going against any privacy,

and allowing anybody (sory guys i dont know you) from plex to access my storage. it is nice idea, but with bad design.

i wish, somebody from plex dev team is reading this, and will change mind. I dont mid to pay for it - lets include price for this standalone aplication to price of client in android/IOS market. But do not force people to give you access to their private data storage…

Do you know how to re-install the Cine-passion agent scraper ?

I did use it on my Mac before moving PMS on my new Syno, but I would like to re-install it … any help would be very appreciated

Jerome

Hi is there a limit to the amount of series you can add to a folder? I am up to series 18 on Top Gear but no matter how I configure the folder it wont add it to the others already there. so is 17 the limit or am I still doing something wrong? thanks

i have 23 seasons of the simpsons about 500 episodes

edit: may have misread your post. i also have 49 different TV shows

Hey guys,

I finally got hands on the 1512+ yesterday and am eager to finally ban the Plex Server from my desktop machine.

However, the provided 0.9.5.2 package did not install (this package is not supported…), so I followed Nudgenudge’s instructions he made to re-package the .spk.

  • unzip the .spk , with “tar xzf” , 7-Zip, or any other program offering this (it’s a .tgz renamed)
  • open the INFO file at the root, change “x86” to “bromolow”
  • re-zip with the same format (“tar czf”) and rename the extension as .spk

I changed “x86 bromolow” to “x86” only, however every time I want to load the package in DSM (3.2 btw), the package manager keeps telling me that the package has an invalid format.

    What am I missing here?

    Edit:

Alright, I made a mistake with the packaging. Still, I can’t install it on the DS, the package not supported message remains, no matter what I put for arch in the INFO file.
