Synology package thread

Hi,

Just bought a 1512+ and am quite please with it. After setting up all my storage, I started installing packages along with the Plex one (from the synology repo). So far, I have only one bug to report:

  • When creating a section and setting up agents options (Freebase, Languages, etc.) The dropbox menu, instead of being on top the field is actually behind!

Now, I have a few questions as well:
  • What is the difference between the 0.9.6.3 from the synology repo and the 0.9.6.7 from the plex website? For me, the 0.9.6.3 has no specific architecture requirements while the 0.9.6.7 does. So, in my case, I should uninstall the 0.9.6.3 and go for the 0.9.6.7, right?
  • Noticed Plex created a specific folder as well as a user. What are they for?
  • Heard a lot about the Synology NAS not being powerful enough to handle transcoding (involved when subtitles are displayed) while direct play runs just fine. While I could witness the sayings on my iPhone and iPad as soon as I enabled some subtitles, it seems like on a PC/MAC client, enabling the subtitles are not involving any kind of transcoding, is that right? Or is it just that while playing with Plex, it had already finished transcoding the whole movie?

    Thanks!

4.0-2228 and PMS 0.9.6.5

just tried 9.6.7 login works. both with nick name and mail.

1a. http://elan.plexapp.com/ patch notes.
1b. both requires intel processor.
1c. easier to update. just download the last version and run the install.
2. it is how plex access the files, and the plex folder is for the DB.
3. My DS412+ is powerful enough for transcoding 720p. I don't know if subs are transcode or not. transcoding is done on the fly.

Thanks again, are you using a single Ethernet connection or both? yes I'm clutching at straws ;)

Thanks,

Do you have any specific ports open on the Synology Firewall aside 32400 ?

I'm beginning to think this might be an incompatibility between my BT-HomeHub router and the DS412+? although if I run PMS on a W7 desktop it's fine

yes, but if you think it is the firewall the problem. deactived to firewall and set the ruter to dmz to ds412+.

Hi,

My Plex Synology Server 9.6.7.204 is not showing up on any of my MAc Mini Clients anymore. I can still see everything on my Iphone or Ipad. This started after upgrading to 9.5.xxx

I have tried to delete the plug-in bundles as suggested in earlier posts of this thread, but that also didn’t help.

Attached the log file, hopefully one of the developers can help me to find the issue.

Just saw that there are more log files under application support, so attaching those as well.

I have done some googling on this issue, but not found anything too useful:

Plex Media Server on my DS1512+ (DSM 4.1) frequently stops playing videos with about one-two minutes remaining.

I recently switched from running the media server locally on my Mac mini to running it on the DS; in the process upgrading to the newest version (0.9.6.9).

The Mac mini is still running the Plex Client.

I’m completely lost as to what is causing this, and how to rectify it. It happens on most of the shows we’ve played since the switch over, but not 100% of the time, which is even more confusing.

Does anyone have any advice? Or has anyone experienced similar issues on the DSM build of Plex?

Cheers,

Daniel

I'm doing the same switch with the PMS on my 1512+ (moving from the MacMini to DS). I'm running .9.6.7 with no issues at all; didn't know that there was a newer version. I am not experiencing any issues at all with playback. I downloaded the package through the package centre, versus the build from the Plex site.

I do have an issue when trying to change artwork -- the 'Select Image' box is greyed out. I'm also not able to add/edit the metadata tab 'Summary'; any change I make immediately disappears. Anyone else have issues in editing art or metadata?

UPDATE -- ERROR WAS ON MY SIDE. I DIDN'T REALISE THAT I HAD TO FIX THE MISMATCH FIRST, WHICH TAKES FOREVER BTW,

tia,
mini

That’s interesting miniwarmth, and obviously great that it’s working!

Please keep me/us posted when you eventually upgrade

It may be worth considering downgrade for me, but the new version offers some nice improvements as well, so that would suck too.

Anyway, thanks for the info!

Cheers

Your welcome. I'm still running both devices right now the MacMini has the build (.9) that came with the autoupdate from Plex whereas the Syno has the (.7) that from the Packages. Neither are exhibiting any issues at all while accessing my shares on the 1512. I'm using the client on the MacMini and also trying the DLNA access via my Panasonic (wish they would allow for the native Plex client) -- the DLNA works reasonable well because it traverses the same categories/folders as Plex; so I can sort by: newest, viewed, resolution, etc.

On a separate note, I don't use SMB or AFP for my shares. I switched to NFS for the mount/dismount behaviour but a side benefit is also r/w access to the shares.

Will keep you posted.

I am running Plex Media Server 0.9.6.9.240 on a Synology 1512+ Since a couple of versions i have some problems with the Media Agents. By now again - it dooes not download any Posters or Infos for the Movies - TV-Shows seems to work.

I tried the Solution to delete

/volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/Framework.bundle

and

/volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/System.bundle

and restart the PMS afterwards, which solved the issue two versions earlier. But now - doesnt help anymore - i dont get anyting donwloaded by the Media Agents…any tip where to look?

Thanks! joe

No issues with media agents while running the version of PMS from the Package Centre (9.6.7.x). It seems like .9.6.9.x still has many bugs.

That said an update popped up today(or in last few days). Unfortunately, I can't seem to see the new version number before updating :( Anyone know what version is being pushed?

If necessary, is there a way to grab an older version and rollback?

I am using the latest version on my 1511+

I have installed/uninstalled the package more times than I can count. Including deleting the Plex user and the Plex folder and rebooting the box.

Problem is that this uninstall doesn’t delete a file “somewhere” that holds info about some old, long deleted libraries.

My client points to these libraries which are no longer being updated. I can’t see them in the media manager. I cant see them on the server. If I add the libraries with the same name on the media manager, my client sees double.

So where are these files…I know they are out there somewhere…and how do I get rid of them!!!

Check -> /Volume1/Plex

Yep, deleted. STILL I have phantom libraries.....there is some kind of config file.......somewhere......

are you logged into myPlex? Do you have "additional/old' servers listed here -> my.plexapp.com/servers

nope.......
