Synology package thread

Update to post below: Now it is working. I restarted the router and the Diskstation and now I can see the Diskstation server in all Cients. Thanks!

Nudge Nudge,

One problem fixed, one to go: Thanks, your updated version and the tips to delete the users Plex user and folder; that did the trick and I could re-install Plex on my 2411+. However it still doesn’t show up in the client. I have tried mutiple computers, the disk station is showing up as a server in the Finder, but nothing shows up in the Plex client. Another Plex Server that I have installed on one of the Macs works fine and shows up in all the clients.

Any more ideas?

Martin

Mmm strange because I can't see the plex directory...
Reinstalled 3 times already with deleting the Plex directory and user but the directory Plex is recreated every time and plex folder (without capital P) nowhere to be found through SSH of course.

I see this in my ps w

12226 plex 39460 S /var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/Plex Media Server
12241 plex 39460 S /var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/Plex Media Server
12242 plex 39460 S /var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/Plex Media Server
12243 plex 39460 S /var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/Plex Media Server

Nothing is working and didn't run your command yet. What does that do?

I have the exact same problem as MightyMikeS2000.

Uninstalled Plex and removed the user and directory /volume1/Plex.

Installed Plex. Installation creates user plex and directory /volume1/Plex (capital P) which IS visible via File Manager.

When I go to xxx:32400/manage nothing shows up (error: cannot open page).

Then I tried deleting the /volume1/Plex directory and creating a /volume1/plex directory. Then I did a “chown -R plex plex”. Have no idea if that part is correct. PMS now loads at xxx:32400/manage!

Don’t know if that’s the correct way to go.

@Sonic @Nudge,

—> I have created a new posting for this in Bugs section. Maybe an admin can delete this one. Thx.

I had the same problem on files not scanning as you. Maybe that info helps you to find where the issue could lie:

My Mac Pro Server would scan all files well, but on Diskstation only 150 ou of my 450 film got scanned. I didn’t have this problem with the TV Show scanner for some reason.

Now for Movies, I found an almost work-around: This problem only seems to occur when there are too many files in the same folder. I have split my movie folder into subfolders with no more than 30 files each and it seems to work better now.

However Disk Station Still only scans 418 out of my 459 movies. The ones being left out seem to be completely at random. Certain folders just don’t get scanned. Certain movies out of certain folder don’t get scanned. I have reset all the rights for the movie folder and also checked for invalid characters, nothing seems to be wrong here.

I hae installed the latest version with the SPK package on my DS1511+ but for some reason it wont start, i can click RUN many times it says it started but it didnt, any idea on this? I also tried uninstall and install again still same issue, it just wont start :frowning:

Running DSM 3.2.

@tcviper

Have you read my post #123. Try that.

Simon

Okay, that means I may have made a mistake in the scripts (creating /volume1/Plex instead of the new one, or checking that the old one exists before creating the new one).
I'll check when I can (still no Internet, so delays are more than expected).

That did it :) Superb! Thank you!

One last question in DSM it says Plex 0.9.2.8 while the file says 0.9.3.5 when i download it? how is that possible?

It was just a variable that wasn't changed. Don't worry, you'll be running 0.9.3.5

Got the package installed. Love it!

Question: Are there any tweaks to get PMS running more effectively on a ATV2 plex client?

I am specifically talking about 720p content. My understanding is that 1080p just wont even load

Currently my setup works but its not fantastic. Slow, crashes etc

Thanks in advance

Hi there

I reinstalled pms on my ds 1511+ and now it can’t find any metadata for my media (tv series).

Two days ago it worked great before the reinstallation.

Anyone an idea how I could solve the problem?

thank you.

I had the same problem. Turned out I had selected “Personal Media Shows” as the metadata agent (under Edit - Advanced). The weird thing was that changing it to TheTVDB didn’t solve it. But removing the section and adding it again (this time making sure I chose TheTVDB) solved it!

Yep this helped! Thank you

Okay, first, the good news: I just got Internet at home, so I can develop again.

And just in time to fix the remaining stuff before the official Laika package.

So, I’ll probably:

  • fix the icon/URL stuff. It does work at home, so please, if you have issues with it, tell me what happens.
  • fix the UTF-8/special characters stuff. This one has a workaround shown by Elan, but it requires copying/installing more stuff, and is a bit whiny on the versions. My goal is to install it by default.
  • fix the install. I saw no errors on the scripts (maybe I packaged an old one? Need to check), but I would like to go back to /volume1/Plex, and change the mkdir’ed folder for a synoshare’d one (that’s why I changed folders. Also, synoshare is so much more efficient).

Anyway, respond away when the forums are up (oh new Plex releases, you are a carnage on that poor forum), but the goal is to give Elan a full-functioning set of scripts for Laika.

    And the future timeline is:
  • remove the Bonjour stuff if it is removed from Plex (or myPlex replaces it)
  • keeping up with Synology updates (BTW, last one fixed the Resource Manager. Nice to finally have numbers)

Jumping on the thread here: I just installed the package today on my DS1511+, and while the installation went smoothly, none of my m4v files have been detected. They were encoded with Handbrake with the Apple TV defaults.

Hello together,

I have a problem to run the actual Plex Server on my DS1010+

I just downloaded the Plex Server v.0.9.3.5 from http://www.plexapp.com/linux/linux-pms-download.php an installed it via Webinterface on my DS1010+. So far, so good. After clicking in “start” nothing happens, there was a popup-windows that say “start not successfully”.

Via ssh I found the following message in /var/log/messages:

Nov 1 12:27:12 PkgMan.cgi: pkgtool.cpp:2239 Failed to start package service

Any ideas what is wrong here?

Regards
Tom

Thanks for the version, it helps... but so far, not a lot of people have issues right after install.

Try the usual debug: ssh, then:

/var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/scripts/start-stop-status start

If it fails at launch, you'll get the real error messages.

Hi,
thx for help. I run the latest version DSM 3.2-1944 on my DS1010.
Here is the output of the script:

Data> /var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/scripts/start-stop-status start<br />
Starting Plex ...<br />
/var/packages/Plex Media Server/scripts/start-stop-status: line 70: can't create /usr/syno/avahi/services/pms.service: Permission denied<br />
su: must be suid to work properly<br />
Data>

I am logged in as admin user, also I have tried to install Plex Server as admin user via Web-Interface.
Is the the right user? I dont know the password for root, if there is one.

Regards
Thomas

Ok, know I logged in via ssh as root (same password as admin user). But I cant loggin as root on the Web GUI.
As root I started the script again:

Data> /var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/scripts/start-stop-status start<br />
Starting Plex ...<br />
sh: /usr/local/plex/Plex Media Server: not found<br />
Data><br />

It seem the installation was not correct, but how can I install as root when i am not able to login?
