Synology package thread

Yes, it's root, sorry, should have mentioned it.

As for the /usr/local stuff, hmmm, it should be copied after install (in this version).
One way it could have been deleted is if you updated the DSM after installing the package. It will be fixed in later versions (it is in the package I gave one or two pages ago).

Try uninstalling/reinstalling the official main package, and check afterwards if the folder is there.

i can´t get empty trash function to work. In TV Shows if i delete a TV show from my SMB share. and manual/auto update the library the TV Shows still appear even after the folder has been deleted

i also have trouble updating new media files in TV Shows. The first run is successful. but after that it updates some folders but not others

The scanning thing could be if the TV show file name includes ÆØÅ i tried renaming the file and the show appeared after a manual refresh.

Hello.

My problem is that I can´t get the Plex media server to work.

I run the command you write and get this message.

DiskStation> /var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/scripts/start-stop-status start

Starting Plex …

ln: /usr/syno/synoman/webman/3rdparty/plex: File exists

DiskStation> Error: Unable to set up server: Address already in use

What does this mean?

Synology 1511+

Reinstalled, reboot. Same error.

It seems very weird, how many got problem instaling PMS for Synoloby. i have the 1511+. And both tried the first beta package until the official 0.9.3.5, all installation has just worked without any kind of issues.

can this has something to do with python, bash or other different software installed. i have tried a lot of other spk files, so i installed Python.spk, Mc.spk, Sabnzbd, headphones. and run my NAS with 3.2.1922 firmware.

i even tried reinstalling the PMS by following the guide, no problems, it worked at first try again.

I also don’t have problems on my 1511+ and am running sabznbd+, sickbeard, python.

I’m also running sickbeard and Python without problems, but with the PMS I’m in trouble.

I do also have a problem with my Synology 1511+, I can’t run the version from PLEX website. It’s no problem to install it, but everytime I hit the run bottom in package manager nothing seems to happen.

I’ve tried both versions the one from plex and the one from dropboxfolder in this forum - installing/uninstalling them, deleting the plex user.

At the moment nothing actually works, so if anybody has a solution, then speak up

Regarding the RS3411XS the listed specifications are

Intel Core i3 i3-2100 3.1GHz

As Found in

DS3611xs

RS3411xs

RS3411RPxs

is this all you need or do you need more information

This will hopefully enable this to be added to the new releases or possibly the previous 0.94 release

Hello Nudgenudge!

Lots of work I’m sure… but any progress on the UTF8 problem yet? Is there light at the end of the tunnel??

Matten

Yes, but strange there is no specific variable for it. Maybe it was done in a DSM update, who knows.

Try to ssh and do:

uname -r

and paste the result here (or PM them to me), I saw on the Synology wiki that it must give the variable.

**quick edit:** I searched a bit more, and apparently, this CPU is listed as "bromolow", not "x86".
I'll try to add it next to x86, and give you the last binary with it (not Laika) to check it.

As a matter of fact, I finally had time yesterday evening to try some stuff! :D
Annnnnnnnd it's not looking great. :( No matter what I tried, I couldn't set up the locale for Plex.

I'm not giving up, but I'm looking at other stuff than the one described in most workarounds: modifying the file scanners, compile options, etc. So, no ETA on this one.
If I don't have an obvious answer, I'll just do the other stuff (upgrading the official package for Laika: bringing back /volume1/Plex as a synoshare, transcoding folder, URL stuff, etc) and let Elan use this to do a first official package pretty quickly. I want myPlex too. :)

Then, when Laika is not a priority, I'll research more the UTF-8 shenanigan.

Does this help the UTF-8 issue?

http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/CrashPlan_Headless_Client#Making_CrashPlan_work_with_non_US-ASCII_characters

I just came across it as I was setting up CrashPlan on my Synology box.

Restarting the DiskStation?!
I have to admit, I didn't check this one.

However, this gives me a reason to say that Elan and I have found a way to do it without the "localedef" stuff, by changing the code of the PMS scanners a bit.
I tested it on 0.9.3.5, it works even with Korean filenames. :D So, hooray!

As for the package, I made a new set of scripts for Elan, so, it's all in his hands now. :) Should be ready pretty soon.
**HOWEVER, FOR THOSE WHO USED THE BETA PACKAGE FROM DROPBOX, WORD OF WARNING:** the new package will delete the existing Library (I learnt it the hard way). Older users will be fine.
So back it up elsewhere, upgrade, and re-copy it in the new Plex folder (same as the old one /volume1/Plex).

And now the bad news: Jamiesharp, I tried to add "bromolow" next to "x86", no dice, it's denied on both if I do that.

Until I get the correct syntax from Synology (or if you found it elsewhere), your solution is to:
- unzip the .spk , with "tar xzf" , 7-Zip, or any other program offering this (it's a .tgz renamed)
- open the INFO file at the root, change "x86" to "bromolow"
- re-zip with the same format ("tar czf") and rename the extension as .spk

If the variable name is right, it should run.

Great news, Nudgenudge! I can’t wait to try the new PMS version:D

So, if I understood correctly, users that are running the version now available in the Linux section of the website, will only have to use the “Update” option and ‘feed’ the new install file to the Synology?

You got that right! Well, if everything goes as planned of course. :D
The /volume1/Plex folder will become a shared folder, which improves on speed/deletion speed (uninstalling will not fail).
Also, there were lots of invisible changes to be Synology-approved (icons, where I put the installation files, etc).

For the next things to do:
- when Laika is more used, removing Bonjour in favor of myPlex.
- if the DSM changes (could happen), change bits and pieces in the package.

But with the future Laika package, most stuff should be in a "final" state.

can the 0.9.3.5 package be used with MyPlex Account in a manual way just to access the media server over internet? tried with Plex client for windows. but could see there where no IP or way access my server. on the local network it works fine with auto discovery.

Sorry, any myPlex stuff is 0.9.5 only.

It's coming soon, don't worry (Elan has to fix the UTF-8 thing too).

Hey there,

I saw some new products on Synology site, namely the DS711+ and DS212+ both meet the spec requirements.

http://www.synology.com/products/product.php?product_name=DS212%2B&lang=us

http://www.synology.com/products/product.php?product_name=DS712%2B&lang=us

I am torn between the 411+ and and the 212+, I do not think the 212+ is dual code so that eliminates 1080p, what do you think the difference in performance would going from the DDR2 1GB down to the DDR3 512MB memory?

Thanks!

After checking a bit more, the 212+ has an ARM processor (damnit Synology, just go full-Atom and Bromolow already), so no PMS on this one.
The 712+, however, has a single-core Atom. But honestly, for 1080p transcoding, don't look at NASes; only top-of-the-line, thousands-of-dollars ones have a chance to transcode this without buffering like mad.
To give a comparison, my DS411+ II has the dual-core version of this processor, and it barely transcodes 720p (to almost 1.5Mbps).

I usually advice people who are on the fence to think about what their client will be:
- computers (Mac mini, Windows HTPC now, Google TV) with no transcoding needed: you can go with it, and the barest Atom will work (hence huge advantage to the 712+: 2-bay, half the price).
- tablets, smartphones, Apple TVs, anything with transcoding: you'll be too limited. Get a cheap "transcoder" (a computer that will host the PMS) and an ARM Synology, often cheaper.

The 712+ does offer a good, cheap, PMS-capable (although with almost no transcoding possible) 2-bay NAS, though.
In the 11 series, the lowest was the 411, with 4 bays, so it's an improvement. Also, half the price. :D

Nudgenudge,

Thanks so much for the info, agreed with the “damnit” statement the 212+ was seeming awesome and had found it for $330 bucks! blarg. I do not currently have any 1080p media, so not so worried, but I do have tons on 720p media.

I currently have a mac mini (2009) as my HTPC (running plex) and all my media on my DS410, but my plan has been to sell both and go with a NAS (DS411+II) and apple TV/LG Smart TV. I currently use my Nas for all my downloads, music and so it seemed great to just have my PMS running on there too.

From your advice maybe that is foolish? With an apple TV/LG TV would I be seeing a lot of stuttering on 720p TV shows and movies? You have the DS411+II, do you not bother with 720p content?

Still really want to ditch the mac mini for something cheaper/smaller.

(Nice to know google TV transcodes to by pass this issue. Wonder if the LG TVs do)
